DEA Supervisor Von Crocker has never liked dead bodies, especially
since he served in Vietnam. Even though it is now 2003, the mere
sight of a corpse propels Crocker back into his memories when he
was a teenager coerced into participating in a drug smuggling
operation with his superior officers, never realizing the impact
this experience would have on his future. As Crocker travels back
in time, he recalls stumbling through his early days at the
DEA-until a fellow agent involved him in an investigation that
Crocker hoped would finally bring closure to the guilt related to
his choices in Vietnam. But as present day events lead him out of
his memories, Crocker's personal demons complicate a drug bust
resulting in the questionable killing of a dealer. Now only time
will tell if he can gain control of his future, before it is too
late. In this suspenseful tale, a DEA supervisor and Vietnam vet
trapped between the past and present must open old wounds in order
to find answers, healing, and resolution.

Retired DEA Special Agent Von Crocker and his wife are already in
dire financial straits when they make the fateful decision to
gamble their last two hundred dollars at a casino. Now on the
fringe of bankruptcy, Von Crocker has no choice but to accept an
offer to become a government contractor in Kabul, Afghanistan. Once
Crocker arrives in Afghanistan, he is confronted with a whole new
set of obstacles which includes some of the most wayward
individuals he has ever encountered along with the unfamiliar
customs of Afghan life, religion and culture. After settling in, he
begins penning journals directed to Ernest Hemingway that share his
startling revelations regarding death, love, patriotism, and those
who fight and make the ultimate sacrifice in war. As his tour
continues, Crocker's entries vividly describe the dangers he
encounters while living among those who must struggle everyday to
survive. But it is not until he finally returns home after his tour
that he discovers whether it was a lesson learned...

Why does a Parisian banker re-enact the medieval wars of Wallace
and Bruce in his spare time? Why do more than 20,000 people attend
the Schotse Weekend bagpipe competition in Bilzen, Flanders? Why
does an entire village in the Italian Alps celebrate a lost
Scottish regiment? And why is there a Highland Games circuit of at
least 30 kilted strength competitions in Austria, with dedicated
athletes tossing hay-balls and pulling tractors? This is the first
study of the self-professed 'Scots' of Europe. It follows the many
thousands of Europeans who are determined to discover their inner
Scotsman, and argues that by imitating the Scots of popular
imagination, the self-styled European Highlanders hope to reconnect
with their own ancestors - their lost songs, traditions and tribes.
They approach Scotland as a site of European memory. This book
explores issues of performance and celebration, memory and
nostalgia, heritage and identity, and will be of interest to
specialists on Scottish emigration and diaspora, Scottish history
and myth, and to the 'Scots' of Europe themselves. -- .

ist sehr sinnvoll auf die Analyse ausgewahlter Kurzfilme

to decide for a topic to be dealt with in my 'Facharbeit', the
decision was clear: Including my interest in the history and pop
culture of the United States of America, Disney's World War 2
cartoons offer a great potential to be researched intensively as
one can find a lot of background knowledge, regarding the history
of the Disney studios and the general historical context. Also,
there is a broad mass of cartoons to be analyzed and looked at
closely. Questioning the justification for family cartoons to be
used as propaganda material, I further have a firm opinion.
However, in order not to go beyond the scope, I must,
unfortunately, leave out several relevant and interesting aspects
to the topic and do not make any claims for completeness. In the
following, I would like to elucidate my approach towards the issue:
To begin with, I focus on general, historical facts about the
US-American World War 2 propaganda and Disney's contribution to the
war effort, giving basic background information, in order to
understand and interpret two war-time cartoons which perfectly
exemplify the convincing way most propaganda cartoons worked and
appealed to the citizens. Being two of the most popular shorts
during World War 2 (one of"

The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly
growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by
advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve
the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own:
digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works
in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these
high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts
are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries,
undergraduate students, and independent scholars.Delve into what it
was like to live during the eighteenth century by reading the
first-hand accounts of everyday people, including city dwellers and
farmers, businessmen and bankers, artisans and merchants, artists
and their patrons, politicians and their constituents. Original
texts make the American, French, and Industrial revolutions vividly
