This volume contains the proceedings of the 7th International
Working Conference on Active and Programmable Networks (IWAN 2005)
that was held during November 21-23, 2005, in Sophia Antipolis,
Cote d' Azur, France, jointly organized by Hitachi Europe and
INRIA. IWAN 2005 took place against a backdrop of questions about
the viability and - cessity of a conference that deals with an area
perceived by many as having run its full course. The Organizing
Committee, during the preparations of the conference, took these
concerns seriously and reflected them in the theme of this year's
event, entitled "Re-incarnating Active Networking Research," and
expanding the scope of past calls for papers into topics that have
emerged from active and programmable networks. The result was a
success because we received 72 submissions, a number that - ceeded
our expectations and in fact is one of the highest in the history
of the conf- ence. The distinguished Technical Program Committee
set high standards for the final program; each one of the submitted
papers received three peer reviews with detailed comments and
suggestions for the authors. In total, 13 papers were accepted for
the main program sessions with 9 papers accepted unconditionally
and the remaining 4 papers being conditionally accepted with
shepherding by selected Program Committee members.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second
International Workshop on Self-Organizing Systems, IWSOS 2007, held
in The Lake District, UK, September 11-13, 2007.
The 17 revised full papers and 5 revised short papers presented
together with 2 invited talks were carefully selected from more
than 36 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections
on ad hoc routing, peer-to-peer networking, network topology,
adaptive and self-organizing networks and multicast and mobility
protocols.
We are delighted to present the proceedings of the 7th IFIP/IEEE
International Conference on Management of Multimedia Networks &
Services (MMNS). The MMNS 2004 conference was held in San Diego,
California, USA on October 4-6,2004.Asinpreviousyears,
theconferencebroughttogether aninternational audience of
researchers and scientists from industry and academia who are -
searching and developing state-of-the-art management systems, while
creating a public venue for results dissemination and intellectual
collaboration. This year marked a challenging chapter in the
advancement of management s- tems for the wider management
researchcommunity, with the growing compl- ities ofthe Internet,
the proliferationof alternativewireless networksandmobile services,
intelligent and high-speed networks, scalable multimedia services,
and the convergence of computing and communications for data and
voice delivery. Contributions from the research community met this
challenge with 84 paper submissions; 26 selected high-quality
papers were subsequently selected to form the MMNS 2004 technical
program. The diverse topics in this year's program included novel
protocols in wireless systems, multimedia over wireless, mobility
management, multimedia service control, proactive techniques for
QoS mana- ment, MPLStra?cengineeringandresiliency,
distributedsystems management, scalable multimedia systems, and
adaptive methods for streaming multimedia.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Quality of Service, IWQoS 2001, held in Karlsruhe, Germany, in June 2001.The 24 revised full papers presented together with six short papers and two abstracts of invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of close to 150 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on provisioning and pricing, systems QoS, routing, TCP related issues, wireless and mobile networking, aggregation and active networks based QoS, scheduling and dropping, and scheduling and admission control.
This book presents the refereed proceedings of the Second COST 237
International Workshop, held in Copenhagen, Denmark in November
1995 in the framework of the CEC COST 237 Multimedia
Telecommunications Services Project.
The 15 papers included in revised full versions were chosen from 24
workshop submissions individually solicited from groups of
researchers and developers known to be active in the areas of
interest. The papers are grouped in sections on multipeer
communications, teleservices and applications support, broadband
network and transport services, QoS assurance, and multimedia
support.
This volume presents the proceedings of the International COST 237
Workshop, held in Vienna in November 1994 in the framework of the
CEC COST 237 Multimedia Telecommunications Services Projects.
The 24 papers presented in revised version were selected from 46
submissions; they are organized in sections on teleservices,
multimedia mail, archiving and retrieving; teleservice support;
quality of service and synchronization; multipeer communication;
broadband network transport issues; and variable bit rate video
coding transport.
After the Referendum on whether Scotland should become an
independent country in September 2014 - and following a momentous
mobilisation of voters by both the Yes and No campaigns -
Scotland's political environment has been fundamentally energised.
But how was the Referendum campaign reported and structured in the
media in Scotland, the wider United Kingdom, and in other parts of
the world, and was it a matter of 'construction' rather than
'representation'? In this book scholars, commentators and
journalists from Britain, Europe and beyond examine how the media
across the world presented the debate itself and the shifting
nature of Scottish - and British - identity which that debate
revealed. Several of the contributors also explore how the emphases
and constructions which were put on the debate in their particular
countries illuminated these countries' own responses to nationalism
and separatism. The consequences of the Referendum's No result are
traced in the media through until the May general election of 2015.
What does it mean to 'think differently'? What are the conditions
under which original thought can take place and what are the
obstacles to it? The ability to create thoughts is what lies at the
base of philosophy and political theory and practice. One cannot
hope to change the world, or even adequately critique it, without
the possibility of the new in mental life.
"The Political Mind" seeks to explore the possibility of
thinking differently through connecting neuropsychological material
on consciousness, nonconsciousness and affect to political theory.
It spans many diverse disciplines: from hard-edged neuropsychology
to sociology, economics, political theory and Eastern and Western
philosophy. Its originality lies in its ability to draw meaningful
connections between such disparate literatures, weaving a coherent
whole. It then applies the concepts created to the currently
popular topics of consumerism and the anti-capitalist and
anti-globalisation movements.
Key Features:
* Unique in drawing connections between neuropsychology and
political theory
* Addresses an enormous breadth of material
* Relevant to those interested in the anti-globalisation and
anti-capitalism movements
