This book is the proceedings of the conference Faecal Indicators:
problem or solution? Has technical progress reduced the need for
faecal indicators? held on 6th to 8th June 2011 at Edinburgh
Conference Centre, Heriot Watt University, UK. It addresses
existing and emerging issues in environmental microbiology which in
turn offer exciting new challenges in microbiology, public health
and environmental science. The ultimate aim being to assist the
monitoring and modelling of environmental systems to protect human
health, animal welfare and environmental quality. With
contributions from leading scientists and experts in academia and
industry, it offers a truly international perspective on both
current research and our ability to respond with useful and
sustainable solutions to many of the emerging challenges of today's
modern communities. The conference featured two combative,
provocative and engaging debates examining the moral issues behind
the statements "What is a coliform and are coliforms relevant to
public health?" and "Do regulations help or hinder the innovation
in testing methods?." The reports of these questions are captured
in the book. The book appeals across the board from those working
in universities and research institutes to local governments, the
water and food industries, and health professionals.
Originally published in 1902, this title was discovered as a
manuscript after the author's death and was published 4 years
later. David Kay published articles on various subjects and was one
of the sub-editors on the eighth edition of Encyclopaedia
Britannica. After writing an article on mnemonics he became very
interested in the subject of memory. He had already published a
title in 1888, Memory: What It Is, and How to Improve It, and this
volume was intended to build on that discussion. A great
opportunity to read one of the early discussions on human memory.

This concise biography surveys Jonson's career and provides an introduction to his works in the context of Jacobean politics, court patronage and his many literary rivalries. Stressing his wit and inventiveness, it explores the strategies by which he attempted to maintain his independence from the conditions of theatrical production and from his patrons and introduces new evidence that, despite his vaunted classicism, he repeatedly appropriated the matter or forms of other English writers in order to demonstrate his own artistic superiority.

"This Malevole is one of the most prodigious affections that ever
conversed with nature: a man, or rather a monster, more discontent
than Lucifer."
""
"The Malcontent" is a striking example of the new satiric tone and
moral seriousness in English comedy of the early 1600s. The play's
vision of a fallen humanity driven by lust and ambition is created
partly by its depiction of Machiavellian intrigue in the court of
Genoa, and partly by the disaffected Malevole, the malcontent of
the title, who is actually the deposed Duke Altofronto in disguise.
Marston's tragi-comedy is full of reversals, surprises and moral
transformations and offers a thin disguise for the Jacobean court
and its vices.
