Regulation of Risk provides comprehensive insight into regulation of risk in transport, trade and environment. Contributions provide national, regional and international perspectives on pressing questions: How is risk conceived in light of novel technological deployment, climate change, political upheaval, evolving geopolitics, and the COVID-19 pandemic? The traditional conception of security as national security against military threats has changed radically since the adoption of the UN Charter in 1945. The perceived nature and sources of threats have been widened as well as the objects of protection, now including individuals, societies, the environment as such and the whole globe. This open access book explores how developments in marine biodiversity and other resources challenge the foundations of the law of the sea and its domestic implementation. It does this by examining different perspectives and case studies. Case studies include an examination of bioprospecting in the Arctic and emergence of Digital Sequence Information (DSI). This allows it to engage with questions of interpretation, established management principles, and institutional relationships.
