First published in 1974, Investigating Drama offers a holistic
understanding of drama. An understanding of drama requires far more
thana study, however thorough, of plays and playwright, stagecraft
and techniques, for drama must always be seen in the context of the
theatre at work. A descriptive coverage of the basic elements of
drama is accordingly only half the purpose of this book, and the
authors hope that their plea in the title for an 'investigation'
will be taken literally. To allow maximum flexibility the book is
divided into independent 'units', which can be followed through as
a complete drama course, or taken individually by those wishing to
concentrate on selective areas. All aspects of theatre are covered
and there is ample opportunity for practical work in improvisation.
This book will be of interest to students of literature and drama.
At a time of declining church attendance, this book challenges us
to understand that evangelism is more important than ever. The
problem is that churches and their leaders often struggle with the
idea and concepts around evangelism, unsure of what might be
theologically or culturally appropriate ways to communicate the
message. This book aims to supply principles and strategies for
evangelism that are theologically rooted, practical and relevant to
the 21st century. It shows how Jesus and the early church did
evangelism and what we can learn from them for our situations.
There is lots of practical help from two experienced practitioners
to develop an evangelistic strategy for your church. It will also
encourage leaders at every level of the church to be leaders and
enablers in evangelism. The approach is theologically rigorous and
powerfully practical, with the focus on redefining a genuine
biblical evangelism. It will help you put foundations in place for
developing a sustainable strategy in your church so that you can
connect not just with those on the fringes but with those who are
way outside.

Small new Christian communities created by pioneer ministers, both
lay and ordained, are popping up everywhere - on housing estates,
in community centres, schools, cafes, among different age groups
and in numerous other contexts beyond the local church. This
practical book is for all who are engaged in this form of ministry
and it begins by identifying some basic principles from a wide
variety of creative examples of pioneer ministry. Illustrated with
actual examples throughout, it explores * how to 'listen' to the
physical, social and spiritual environment of a local context * how
to discern a community's needs and the appropriate missional
response * how to build a creative team * the art of the start -
how to begin well * how to build relationships and create community
by acts of authentic love * how to become and stay Jesus-centred *
how to live and tell the gospel in meaningful ways * how to grow
disciples * how to stay fresh (and avoid rotas!)
