This beautifully illustrated Bible has been retold for children
aged 8 and up in an engaging and easy-to-understand style. Soft,
glowing watercolour illustrations help to bring a full range of Old
and New Testament stories to life, making this an inspiring and
powerful introduction to overarching Christian themes: God's
faithfulness to his people and the promise of Christ for all of
humanity. Readers can also discover insight into the people and
places of the Bible through a family tree, a glossary, timeline and
maps of the Holy Land. The Discovery Illustrated Family Bible has a
durable hard cover with a navy ribbon marker and will make a
wonderful gift. 'The Discovery Illustrated Family Bible retells the
stories of the Bible in accessible yet beautiful language, and with
useful explanations of faraway places and ancient times and their
customs. The illustrations bring the stories to life so they will
live on in those who read them.' -- Tom Ravetz, Lenker of The
Christian Community in Great Britain and Ireland
A true fairy story is a work of art. At Michaelmas in 1795, a
series of stories appeared, of which the concluding one was a fairy
tale: The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily. The tale tells of
magical transformation--one that, when the time is at hand, can be
experienced by anyone. The author of these stories was Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe, and the creation of his fairy tale would have
far-reaching consequences. This edition of Goethe's fairy tale
arose from illustrator David Newbatt's inspiration to join Thomas
Carlyle's English translation with a new series of pictures. The
purpose is to reveal the sevenfold process that unfolds within
Goethe's fairy tale--a process that forms a path of inner
development and personal transformation. In addition to the
translation by Thomas Carlyle and the series of seven pictures by
David Newbatt, The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily includes an
introduction by Tom Raines.
Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter contain a wide variety of poems,
songs, and stories of the seasons and many contributions for
festivals. The volume titled Spindrift contains material for use
throughout the year, including more than forty stories, many
different cultures around the world. Gateways contains sections on
morning, evening, birthdays, and fairy tales. Based on work in
Waldorf kindergartens, these six books provide invaluable material
for working with young children and will be useful for Waldorf
teachers, home schoolers, and parents alike. First published more
than twenty years ago, these books are in their third edition, now
reedited and with much new material added. In addition, the music
has been comprehensively edited, with most songs now in the scale
of D-pentatonic, which is particularly suited to pentatonic lyres
and may be played on any traditional seven-note or twelve-note
instrument. Each volume includes an enlightening introduction by
Jennifer Aulie on music in the "mood of the fifth." The covers are
all illustrated in watercolors by David Newbatt, with the four
seasonal titles each depicting a different worker.
