Dystopia, from the Greek dus and topos "bad place," is a revelatory
genre and concept that has experienced a meteoric rise in
popularity at the start of the twenty-first century. This book
addresses approaches to the study of dystopia from the academic
fields of theology and religious studies. Following a co-written
chapter where Scott Donahue-Martens and Brandon Simonson argue that
dystopia can be understood as demythologized apocalyptic, ten
unique contributions each engage a work of popular culture, such as
a book, movie, or television show. Topics across chapters range
from the critical function of dystopia, social location and
identity, violence, apocalypse and the end of everything,
sacrifice, catharsis, and dystopian existentialism. This volume
responds to the need for theological and religious reflection on
dystopia in a world increasingly threatened by climate change,
pandemics, and global war.

Despite the effectiveness of medication in reducing symptoms in
people who have experienced a first episode of psychosis,
persistent functional impairments are common, and are associated
with an increased risk for relapse and a poor long-term prognosis.
Adjunctive psychosocial interventions are needed to address these
functional impairments and to assist with improving illness
self-management and psychological adjustment. The Graduated
Recovery Intervention Program (GRIP) is a novel
cognitive-behavioral therapy program designed to facilitate
symptomatic and functional recovery in people who have experienced
an initial episode of psychotic illness. Above all else, GRIP aims
to help people to develop increased self- efficacy and hope, and to
move forward by setting and achieving personally meaningful goals.
In this book, the treatment development process of GRIP is
described. An overview of the treatment approach, including
specific treatment phases and prescribed interventions, is
provided. Finally, data from an open feasibility trial of this
intervention are presented.
In this scholarly presentation, Dr. Penn invites the reader of this
significant research on a historical pilgrimage back to the early
portion of the nineteenth century, in order to revisit the lineage
and inception of the George-Kennedy-Anderson-Cathey family of
African descent. According to the author, "It is incumbent upon
those of us today who are surrogates of their sacrifices, to
remember the toil, the tears, the long-suffering and labor which
has been given on our behalf by this esteemed 'Collective' which
had its early beginning in the 'slave state' of Tennessee. It is
without question a legacy of fortitude and unfaltering faith that
we should never forget."
