Entrepreneurial Learning - New Perspectives in Research, Education and Practice (Hardcover): David Rae, Catherine Wang Entrepreneurial Learning - New Perspectives in Research, Education and Practice (Hardcover)
David Rae, Catherine Wang
R4,639 Discovery Miles 46 390 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book explores the development of the rapidly evolving field of entrepreneurial learning by bringing together contributions from an international team of researchers, who offer new understanding of its emerging development and its potential scope for the future. Using the three domains of theory, education, and learning-in-practice, this book offers differing and complementary perspectives on entrepreneurial learning: Conceptual work which reviews and summarises prior work in the field and advances theoretical understanding of entrepreneurial learning research, enabling a review of the development of research in this area over time. Applied work around entrepreneurship education which develops understanding of teaching and learning practices in educational and institutional contexts. Exploration of learning in 'real' business contexts, including new venture creation, family business and small business development, and 'intrapreneurial' learning in larger organisations. Using global perspectives, originating from the different cultural contexts of the USA, UK, Nordic and Chinese perspectives, the chapters converge to address issues, questions and opportunities for the future development of entrepreneurial learning. This book will be of interest to educators and researchers in the areas of entrepreneurship, enterprise education and entrepreneurial development, as well as policy makers and business advice and support agencies.

Serious Mental Illness - Person-Centered Approaches (Paperback, 1st New edition): Abraham Rudnick, David Roe Serious Mental Illness - Person-Centered Approaches (Paperback, 1st New edition)
Abraham Rudnick, David Roe
R1,688 Discovery Miles 16 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Practical and evidence-based, this unique book is the first comprehensive text focused on person-centered approaches to people with serious mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It reflects a range of views and findings regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, self-help, policy-making, education and research. It is highly recommended for all healthcare professionals, students, researchers and educators involved in general practice, psychiatry, nursing, social work, clinical psychology and therapy. Healthcare service providers, and policy makers and shapers, will find the book's wide-ranging, multi-professional approach enlightening. 'Serious Mental Illness reflects a continued distancing from the outmoded and unsubstantiated belief that people with severe mental illnesses could not recover, and that they would respond positively only to goals and treatment plans chosen, designed and implemented by providers in order to prevent their further deterioration. Anyone with an interest in the concept of person-centered approaches will discover new ideas in this book. Indeed, anyone with an interest in person-centered approaches has to read this book. Not only is it the first such book on person-centered approaches, but it will serve as the gold standard in this topic area for years to come.' William A Anthony, in the Foreword

Love, Daddy - Letters from My Father (Hardcover): David Rae Morris, Willie Morris, Kaylie Jones Love, Daddy - Letters from My Father (Hardcover)

Love, Daddy: Letters from My Father examines the complexities of father-and-son relationships through letters and photographs. Willie Morris wrote scores of letters to his only son, David Rae Morris, from the mid-1970s until Willie's death in 1999. From David Rae's perspective, his father was often emotionally disconnected and lived a peculiar lifestyle, often staying out carousing well into the night. But Willie Morris was an eloquent and accomplished writer and began to write his son long, loving, and supportive letters when David Rae was still in high school. An aspiring photographer, David Rae was confused and befuddled by his father's warring personalities and began photographing Willie using the camera as a buffer to protect him and his emotions. The collection begins in early 1976 and continues for more than twenty years as David Rae moved about the country, living in New York, Massachusetts, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Minnesota, before finally settling in Louisiana. "All the while my father was writing to me I somehow managed to save his letters," David Rae wrote. "I left them in storage and in boxes and in piles of clutter on desks and in basements. They were kind, offering a love that he found difficult to express openly and directly. He simply was more comfortable communicating through letters." The letters cover topics ranging from writing, the weather, Willie's return to Mississippi in 1980, the Ole Miss football season, and local town gossip to the fleas on the dog to just life and how it's lived. Likewise, the photographs are portraits, documentary images of daily life, dinners, outings, and private moments. Together they narrate and illuminate the complexities of one family relationship, and how, for better or worse, that love endures the passage of time.

R1,019 Discovery Miles 10 190 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The World Heritage-listed Port Arthur penitentiary is one of Australia's most visited historical sites, attracting over 400,000 visitors each year. Designed to incarcerate 480 men, between 1856 and 1877 thousands of convicts passed through it. In 2013, archaeologists began one of the largest ever excavations of an Australian convict site. Recovering Convict Lives: A Historical Archaeology of the Port Arthur Penitentiary makes their findings available to general readers for the first time. Extensively illustrated, it is a fascinating journey into the inner workings of the penal system and the day-to-day lives of Port Arthur convicts. Through the things they left behind - the sandstone base of a prison wall, a clay pipe discarded in a washroom, gambling tokens dropped between floorboards - this book tells their stories.

A Civil War Soldier's Diary - Valentine C. Randolph, 39th Illinois Regiment (Hardcover): Valentine C Randolph A Civil War Soldier's Diary - Valentine C. Randolph, 39th Illinois Regiment (Hardcover)
Valentine C Randolph; Edited by David Roe
R939 Discovery Miles 9 390 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A century and a half after Appomattox, the diaries of soldiers continue to surface, and Civil War enthusiasts, including many university professors, dream of finding a lost piece of history. Such was the delight of David Roe, whose friend gave him a remarkable family heirloom-the diary of Valentine C. Randolph-which included handwritten daily entries starting on the day Randolph enlisted and ending on the evening before he arrived home. Spanning three years of military experience in the 39th Illinois Regiment, this diary includes revealing narratives, some recounting events not noted in other sources. An eloquent diarist, Randolph vividly describes military action in key areas of the eastern theater-northern Virginia, Charleston, and Richmond and its surrounds. His record of the Peninsula Campaign, the siege of Charleston, and finally the Bermuda Hundred and Petersburg campaigns offers a rare look at the role common soldiers played in master strategies. He recounts the trials of garrison duty and sea sickness; he observes life in army camps and hospitals. A former theology student and an unusually thoughtful man, Randolph questions the military predation of civilian property and condemns the racial prejudices of his fellow soldiers.
