Before the guy gets taken away, he makes Andy and Laurie promise to
look after the dog, which is an easy promise to make, since Andy is
the founder of a dog rescue organisation. At the police station,
the passerby is identified as Matthew Jantzen, who turns out to be
wanted for murder. Andy is struck by the fact that Jantzen, a man
supposedly on the run, would nevertheless intervene to help a dog,
and even though Andy is never keen to take on a new case, he can't
say no to someone who is clearly as much of a dog lover as he is.

Christmas has come early to the town of Paterson, New Jersey, in
the form of a snowstorm that dumps two feet of snow on the ground.
Lawyer Andy Carpenter likes snow - white Christmas and all that -
but it can cause problems for the walks he takes his dogs on every
day. When Andy's golden retriever, Tara, goes to play in the snow
and instead discovers a body, Andy ends up on the phone with the
local newspaper editor. The murder victim is Mayor Alex Oliva, who
had an infamous relationship with the newspaper. Last year a young
reporter published an expose, and Oliva had him fired for libel.
Now, the young reporter - and prime suspect - is in need of a
lawyer. Andy agrees to take the case, though it's not looking good
this holiday season. The evidence is piling up faster than the snow
in Best in Snow, the latest Christmas mystery in the bestselling
Andy Carpenter series from David Rosenfelt.
Over the course of his legal career, Andy Carpenter has lost a
few cases. But that doesn't mean he forgets his clients. Andy has
always been convinced that Joey Desimone, a man convicted of murder
nine years ago, was innocent and believes that Joey's family's
connections to organized crime played a pivotal role in his
conviction. While there isn't much Andy can do for him while he
serves out his prison sentence, Joey suggests that he check up on
Joey's elderly uncle. He'd rather not, but as a favor to Joey, Andy
agrees to take his dog, Tara, on a few visits.
The old man's memory is going, but when Andy tries to explain why
he's there, it jogs something in the man's mind, and his comments
leave Andy wondering if Uncle Nick is confused, or if he just might
hold the key to Joey's freedom after all this time. Andy grabs on
to this thread of possibility and follows it into a world where the
oath of silence is stronger than blood ties, and where people will
do anything to make sure their secrets are kept.
Riveting, suspenseful, and highly entertaining, "Leader of the
Pack" is bestseller David Rosenfelt's latest entry in his
much-beloved Andy Carpenter series.
Kenny Schilling is the new star running back for the New York
Giants. Troy Prestpn was a wide receiver for the jets, until his
recent murder. Could rivalry have turned Kenny Schilling into a
cold-blooded killer? The police say yes. And now the football hero
needs a good lawyer-quick. Still basking in the glow of his last
successful case, Andy Carpenter is called to defend Kenny's
innocence. Then it's revealed that Troy wasn't the only murdered
player Kenny was in contact with. Now, amid a collapsing personal
life and death threats from a drug king-who mayor may not have a
hand in things-Andy must keep his eye on the ball during what could
become the media trial of the century

Although New Jersey defence attorney Andy Carpenter has re-entered
the dating scene he still has strong feelings for his ex-girlfriend
Laurie, a top-ranking cop who has moved back to her home town. Then
one day Laurie calls him out of the blue. She has recently arrested
a young man for murder and although there was enough evidence for
an arrest, Laurie believes he's innocent. Andy agrees to go to
Findlay to investigate and soon finds himself face-to-face with a
mysterious religious group - one that seems to know a great deal
about murder - and other secrets that are best left alone.
A great book…gripping…all around terrific." -Harlan Coben, author of Tell No One "I hate DNA more than I hate opera. I hate it more than I hate meaningless touchdowns by the underdog that cover the spread when I'm betting the favorite....I hate DNA because it's boring, because I will never understand it, and because it almost always works against me." OPEN AND SHUT Whether dueling with new forensics or the local old boys' network, irreverent defense attorney Andy Carpenter always leaves them awed with his biting wit and winning fourth-quarter game plan. But the fun stops the day Andy's dad, Paterson, New Jersey's legendary ex-D.A., drops dead in front of him at a game in Yankee Stadium. The shocks pile on as he discovers his dad left him with two unexpected legacies: a fortune of $22 million that Andy never knew existed…and a murder case with enough racial tinder to burn down City Hall. Struggling to serve justice and bring honor to his father, Andy must dig up some explosive political skeletons-and an astonishing family secret that can close his case (and his mouth) for good. OPEN AND SHUT heralds-no contest-the year's most sensational new voice in mystery fiction: David Rosenfelt.
A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his
owner--an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief--is convicted of
the crime, the dog could be put down. Few rival Andy Carpenter's
affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As
Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set
free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved
unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one
they've been charged with. Andy will have to call upon the unique
abilities of this ex-police dog to help solve the crime and prevent
a catastrophic event from taking place.
Defence attorney Andy Carpenter has been successfully avoiding
taking on new cases until his sometime friend and newspaper owner
Vince Sanders, calls and asks him for a favour. Daniel Cumming,
Vince's star reporter, is being used as the mouthpiece for a brutal
serial killer. He has been cooperating with the police but Vince
wants to make sure both the newspaper and Daniel are protected.
Andy thinks the case will be a piece of cake...until Daniel is
found unconscious in the park next to the killer's latest victim.
Daniel claims he intended to stop the murder but the police arrest
him. A reluctant Andy plunges himself into the case. And as he
learns more about Daniel's shady background he begins to wonder how
deadly the truth might be.
Although New Jersey defence attorney Any Carpenter has re-entered
the dating scene he still has strong feelings for his ex-girlfriend
Laurie, a top-ranking cop who has moved back to her home town. Then
one day Laurie calls him out of the blue. She has recently arrested
a young man for murder and although there was enough evidence for
an arrest, Laurie believes he's innocent. Andy agrees to go to
Findlay to investigate and soon finds himself face-to-face with a
mysterious religious group - one that seems to know a great deal
about murder - and other secrets that are best left alone.
Andy Carpenter rescues a golden retriever from being put down and
finds that the dog was supposed to have died five years before
during an incident that resulted in his master being convicted of
murdering his fiancee at sea. Encouraged by the prisoner's sister,
Andy endeavours to reopen the case by using the dog as a witness in
court. He finds himself the object of violent interest by persons
unknown who very much do not want a new trial, resulting in car
chases, attempted assassination and dog-napping. Andy displays his
usual court-room theatrics, but he has to bring in the Mafia before
he gets to the bottom of a remarkable chain of impersonations and
murder.
Andy Carpenter gains possession of an adorable Bernese puppy whose
owner was brutally murdered. Few can rival Andy's affection for
dogs, and he will do whatever it takes to insure that this little
pup doesn't fall into the wrong hands. However, his playful new
friend is valued by several people, many of whom are willing to
resort to violence to get what they want. It will take more than
Andy's usual courtroom theatrics to save this dog, including a
little help from his beloved golden retriever, Tara. Andy soon
discovers that anyone around him is in danger, including his
long-time girlfriend Laurie, and he will have to muster all of his
wits to save those he holds most dear.
