The Horseshoe Curve is known worldwide as an engineering
achievement by the Pennsylvania Railroad. This landmark, located
just west of Altoona, opened to traffic on February 15, 1854, and
it enabled a railroad line to climb the Allegheny Mountains and the
eastern continental divide. The Horseshoe Curve's construction
impacted railroad design and development for mountainous terrain
everywhere, enabling access to coal and other raw materials
essential for the industrial age. J. Edgar Thomson, chief engineer
of the Pennsylvania Railroad, is widely recognized for his
engineering and design of the Horseshoe Curve, a concept never
utilized previously. Today the curve is still in use and sees
approximately 70 trains daily. Through vintage photographs,
Horseshoe Curve chronicles how this marvel remains one of the vital
transportation arteries linking the east and west coasts of the
United States.

Noam Chomsky's first book on syntactic structures is one of the
first serious attempts on the part of a linguist to construct
within the tradition of scientific theory-construction a
comprehensive theory of language which may be understood in the
same sense that a chemical, biological theory is understood by
experts in those fields. It is not a mere reorganization of the
data into a new kind of library catalogue, nor another specualtive
philosophy about the nature of man and language, but rather a
rigorus explication of our intuitions about our language in terms
of an overt axiom system, the theorems derivable from it, explicit
results which may be compared with new data and other intuitions,
all based plainly on an overt theory of the internal structure of
languages; and it may well provide an opportunity for the
application of explicity measures of simplicity to decide
preference of one form over another form of grammar.

Christian universalism has become a subject of fierce debate in
recent years. Numerous works have been published on the topic, and
it can be difficult for readers to recognize the breadth of
possible approaches. While universal salvation is often boiled down
to (and dismissed as) a single idea--that God saves all
people--this oversimplification masks the variety of theologies
that reach this conclusion in ways that are not always compatible.
Christian universalism is actually an umbrella of different
theological interpretations of the idea that all people will be
saved. In this book, leading experts on universal
salvation--David W. Congdon, Tom Greggs, Morwenna Ludlow, and
Robin A. Parry--provide a concise guide to four distinct
approaches: patristic, evangelical, post-Barthian, and existential.
The contributors, who have each written extensively on Christian
universalism, highlight distinct approaches that emphasize
different theological values. The book will be useful as a textbook
for students of theology, especially those training for ministry,
and as a resource for anyone seeking a more well-rounded
understanding of Christian universalism.
In a post-9/11 world, Christian. Muslim. Friend. lays out a path
toward authentic friendship between Christians and Muslims. Most
similar books either teach Christians to evangelize Muslims or else
downplay their Christian commitments. The author, who has lived and
worked among and befriended Muslims for more than fifty years,
offers readers a third way: holding onto the Christ-centered
commitments of their faith while cultivating peaceful friendship
with Muslims.
Bullying, harassment and other unacceptable workplace behaviors
pose significant problems for organizations. This exploration of
the issue notes that factors from within the organization may help
determine who and why some individuals become targets and others
become bullies. The authors explore different types of behaviors
where managers and management, as well as employees, are the
problem. Each chapter has anecdotes scattered throughout and
contains a 'mini-case,' review questions, 'action' items, and two
longer cases, all based on actual events. The authors present a
unique framework (V-REEL (R)) to assist individuals and
organizations in analyzing the organization's environment in an
effort to eradicate the negative behavior forces that contribute to
bad behavior. In addition, they have included a glossary of
important terms, a bibliography of useful references, a survey that
may be used to assess conditions in the organization, and a listing
of organizations that provide information or assistance. These
various pedagogical tools enable the book to be used by human
resource professionals, managers, employees, and academics as
individuals or in groups to both avoid and eradicate bullying and
harassment at work.
In this illustrated view of the history of Raith Rovers the author
builds up the story of the club by recounting events that happened
on every day of the year, even during the summer months. Triumphs,
disasters, shipwrecks, crazy Board Room decisions, managers (good
and bad), players (brilliant and mediocre) all feature. As do Davie
Morris, who captained Scotland when they beat all three Home
Nations in 1925; the wizardry of Alec James; the command of the
famous half back line of Young, McNaught and Leigh; and the dash
and enthusiasm of the team which won the Scottish League Cup. But
it is not just about the good days. There are bad days, and loads
of mediocre and mundane times too, as well as some accounts of
Raith Rovers in war time. The year as a whole reveals the
undeniable charm of the institution which means so much to so many
- Raith Rovers Football Club - or, as they are referred to in
Kirkcaldy, "the" Rovers.

In 1991, Ahmed Ali Haile returned to the chaos of his native
Somalia with a clear mission: to bring warring clans together to
find new paths of peace--often over a cup of tea. A grenade thrown
by a detractor cost Haile his leg and almost his life, but his
stature as a peacemaker remained. Whether in Somali's capital,
Mogadishu, or among Somalis in Kenya, Europe, and the United
States, Haile has been a tireless ambassador for the peace of
Christ. Into this moving memoir of conversion and calling, Haile
weaves poignant reflections on the meaning of his journey in the
world of Islam. 144 Pages.
