Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain

This superb introduction to the work of the famous Russian poet
Anna Akhmatova (1886-1966) begins with an account of her life in
pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg and Stalinist Russia, and focuses
principally on her poetry. Incorporating all recent scholarship,
the author traces the way in which Akhmatova's work reflects the
tumultuous times in which she lived, and her emergence as the
spokeswoman of her generation, to provide a long overdue account of
her entire career.
High Throughput Bioanalytical Sample Preparation: Methods and
Automation Strategies is an authoritative reference on the current
state-of-the-art in sample preparation techniques for bioanalysis.
This book focuses on high throughput (rapid productivity)
techniques and describes exactly how to perform and automate these
methodologies, including useful strategies for method development
and optimization. A thorough review of the literature is included
within each of these chapters describing high throughput sample
preparation techniques: protein removal by precipitation;
equilibrium dialysis and ultrafiltration; liquid-liquid extraction;
solid-phase extraction; and various on-line techniques.
The text begins with an introductory overview of the role of
bioanalysis in pharmaceutical drug development. Fundamental
understanding of the strategies for sample preparation is
reinforced next, along with essential concepts in extraction
chemistry. Several chapters introduce and discuss microplates,
accessory products and automation devices. Particular strategies
for efficient use of automation within a bioanalytical laboratory
are also presented. The subject material then reviews protein
precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction and
various on-line sample preparation approaches. The book concludes
with information on recent advances in sample preparation, such as
solid-phase extraction in a card format and higher density
extraction plates.
Important objectives that can be accomplished when the strategies
presented in this book are followed include: improved efficiency in
moving discovery compounds to preclinical status with robust
analytical methods; return on investment in automation for sample
preparation; and improved knowledge and expertise of laboratory
staff.
.Shows the reader exactly how to perform modern bioanalytical
sample preparation techniques, complete with detailed
strategies
.Thorough literature review and summary of published
information
.Detailed discussion and examples of the method development
process"
Although Green approaches to politics have had some practical
successes in a range of different countries, the movement has
lacked a fully developed and coherent political theory. In this
unique study David Wells and Tony Lynch demonstrate that ecological
understanding and environmental concern are not just consistent
with notions of social equity and grass-roots democracy, but that a
concern for these aims are the logical consequence of what might be
called 'political ecology'. They begin with a critique of existing
approaches to Green politics, with particular attention to the
claims of 'deep ecology' and go on to develop an important
examination of the relationship between economic and ecological
styles of thinking. They conclude with a 'social commons' inspired
revision of Lockean politics. What emerges is an important
understanding of the tasks of politics: rather than focusing on
'foreground' issues of individual choice, the central political
challenge of our age is with the management and provision of the
background conditions (the ecological conditions - understood in
the broadest sense) which allows the possibility of a reasonable
life. The analysis shows a concern with environmental commons
engenders equal concerns for social, economic and cultural commons,
develops an account of how such commons can be effectively managed
and relates this account to more traditional political themes of
democracy, liberty and equity.
The appeal of games and puzzles is timeless and universal. In this
unique book, David Wells explores the fascinating connections
between games and mathematics, proving that mathematics is not just
about tedious calculation but imagination, insight and intuition.
The first part of the book introduces games, puzzles and
mathematical recreations, including knight tours on a chessboard.
The second part explains how thinking about playing games can
mirror the thinking of a mathematician, using scientific
investigation, tactics and strategy, and sharp observation. Finally
the author considers game-like features found in a wide range of
human behaviours, illuminating the role of mathematics and helping
to explain why it exists at all. This thought-provoking book is
perfect for anyone with a thirst for mathematics and its hidden
beauty; a good high school grounding in mathematics is all the
background that is required, and the puzzles and games will suit
pupils from 14 years.
A fascinating journey into the mind-bending world of prime
numbers
Cicadas of the genus Magicicada appear once every 7, 13, or 17
years. Is it just a coincidence that these are all prime numbers?
How do twin primes differ from cousin primes, and what on earth (or
in the mind of a mathematician) could be sexy about prime numbers?
What did Albert Wilansky find so fascinating about his
brother-in-law's phone number?
Mathematicians have been asking questions about prime numbers for
more than twenty-five centuries, and every answer seems to generate
a new rash of questions. In Prime Numbers: The Most Mysterious
Figures in Math, you'll meet the world's most gifted
mathematicians, from Pythagoras and Euclid to Fermat, Gauss, and
Erd?o?s, and you'll discover a host of unique insights and
inventive conjectures that have both enlarged our understanding and
deepened the mystique of prime numbers. This comprehensive, A-to-Z
guide covers everything you ever wanted to know--and much more that
you never suspected--about prime numbers, including:
* The unproven Riemann hypothesis and the power of the zeta
function
* The ""Primes is in P"" algorithm
* The sieve of Eratosthenes of Cyrene
* Fermat and Fibonacci numbers
* The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search
* And much, much more

From 1997, traditional four-wheeled Morgans were modernized with
superformed aluminium wings, a stainless steel bulkhead, stainless
exhausts, and alterations to the body tub that provided longer
doors, an increase in interior width, and a roll hoop under the
dashboard. Buying and Maintaining a Modern Traditional Morgan
