Handbook of Biodegradable Polymers, the seventh volume in the Drug
Delivery and Targeting book series, provides a source manual for
synthetic procedures, properties and applications of bioerodible
polymers. The authors describe widely available materials such as
polyactides, collagen and gelatin, as well as polymers of emerging
importance, such as the genetically-engineered and elastin-based
polymers which are either proprietary or in early stages of
development. Section I addresses synthetic absorbable polymers, and
Section 2 profiles natural, semi-synthetic and biosynthetic
polymers. Section 3 discusses the surface characterization of
degradable polymers, the modeling of biodegradation and non-medical
polymers. This book is ideal for researchers from academia and
industry as well as chemists, pharmacists and physicians who deal
with biopolymers, drug delivery and targeting, bioengineering and
implantable devices.
The "Burnley FC Miscellany" offers a detailed history of Burnley
FC, where you can read some of the odd, quaint and quirky things
that have been part of the past 125 years of Clarets history. 'Read
all about it!' in "The Burnley FC Miscellany". Burnley Football
Club come from the smallest town ever to win League Division One
and the FA Cup. Some big city clubs currently in the Premier League
have won neither! Burnley FC's history sparkles with international
players, 'football firsts' and record-breaking achievements. Among
their players have been a Footballer of the Year, one who played
for Great Britain, several who played in World Cups and at least
one who captained his country. But this book is mainly about
Burnley 'off the record'. Here you can read some of the odd, quaint
and quirky things that have been part of the past 125 years of
Clarets history. Who scored three goals for England and was never
picked again? When did Burnley play 10 Scots in the first team,
making the only Englishman feel 'lonely'? And what has golf in a
hotel bedroom got to do with anything? When Burnley were in
Division Four, how was it that they attracted over 80,000 to watch
them in one game? When did 10 Blackburn Rovers players walk off the
pitch? Which position did Blackadder play in the Burnley team? And
which bricklayer became the club's greatest ever player?

When Matthew Clemens ventured into the churchyard to gather
information about the Cornish miners buried there, one gravestone
in particular seemed to call his attention. The inscription was to
Reuben Visick and his two eldest sons, all three killed in a mining
accident more than a hundred years before. But below the
inscription were the words that echoed again and again in Matthew's
head: "And to Jeremy Visick, His Son, Age 12, Whose Body Still Lies
in Wheal Maid."
The lines were as clear to Matthew as if he'd heard them spoken.
Night after night they drew him to the churchyard, or to the
outbuilding behind the Clemens home, where Jeremy Visick had lived,
until Matthew began to sense that somehow his destiny and Jeremy
Visick's were inexorably intertwined.
Jeremy Visick is an irresistible and gripping adventure story about
loyalty and one boy's commitment to another across time.
