Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon star in this drama based on
the historical novel by Sara Gruen, following the adventures of a
young vet working in a travelling circus during America's Great
Depression in the 1930s. After his parents are killed in a car
accident, promising Ivy League student Jacob Jankowski (Pattinson)
suffers an emotional breakdown and runs away before graduating,
eventually finding work as a vet with the down-at-heel Benzini
Brothers circus. There he meets a host of colourful characters
including tyrannical animal trainer August (Christoph Waltz) and
his beautiful wife Marlena (Witherspoon).
Otherworld Bound is an adventure set in the near future at a time
when space travel is still a dream for Earth. Greg Cordell, a young
nuclear electronics scientist befriends a supply clerk co-worker
who knows more about scientific things than a clerk should know,
and who turns out to have special abilities. United National, a
worldwide corporation that controls all activity on the planet has
replaced the old United Nations and brought a measure of stability
to the planet. Now the government is global; and, unknown to the
masses, is being infiltrated by aliens. When Cordell starts
inquiring about a fugitive scientist from twenty years earlier, the
government comes after him. Rescued by the Others, a breakaway
group from Titan striving to live in peace, Greg is taken to
various sites in the solar system while continuing to develop
products to help people get away safe. Their only hope is to get as
many as they can to some other world where they can live without
tyranny. The developments they use to defend themselves prove a
challenge for the alien government that is set to stop them at all
costs. The intrigue and adventure of rescuing Nora Landers, Greg's
romantic interest, and others from Earth proves to keep the reader
anxiously waiting for the next development while the Others pursue
their goal to be Otherworld Bound.

Is repressed memory as common as Freud thought, and is Freud still
important today? What mistakes do humans routinely make in judging
how likely events are to occur? Why do we find patterns in events
even when they are unrelated? How do genetics make some people more
prone to drug addiction, sensation seeking, or being highly
sociable? Just how do you teach old dogs new tricks, and how does
this same mechanism end up causing superstitious behavior? How are
sexual identity, sexual orientation, and sex roles developed, and
what did we learn about that process from the case of the opposite
sex identical twins? How much control do we have over our
happiness, and how can we make our lives happier? More Psychology
in Plain English is the companion volume to Psychology in Plain
English. Through anecdotes, personal examples, wicked humor, and
explanations honed through more than 30 years and more than 700
psychology classes, Dr. Richards covers some of his most popular
classroom topics.

In praise of Augustine, Herbert A. Deane writes, "Genius he had in
full measure ... he is the master of the phrase or the sentence
that embodies a penetrating insight, a flash of lightning that
illuminates the entire sky." To provide the student with a glimpse
of that genius and a synthesis of Augustine's views on man and
society, the author presents the most important passages from
Augustine's entire body of work in which human nature, the social
order, and the nature and function of the state are discussed.
Marshaling this primary material, he masterfully weaves the
connections between Augustine's social and political ideas and the
general framework of his thought. A new foreword by Richard A.
Munkelt makes a substantial contribution in critiquing Deane's
assimilation of certain aspects of Augustine's thought to
modern-day liberalism. The new foreword also contains extensive
additional bibliography on the subject of Augustine's political
thought.
"Will undoubtedly remain the basic work on this
subject."--Library Journal
"Professor Deane significantly contributes both to historical
understanding of Augustine's political thinking and to appreciation
of its permanent relevance to the moral dilemmas of politics. No
other study of Augustine's political thought gives nearly so much
so well."--Political Science Quarterly
"This book would be salutary, possibly purgatorial, reading for
all politicians, psychologists, and educationalists."--Times
Literary Supplement
