Best-selling author Jacqueline Davies tells the story of two
unlikely friends: Sydney and Taylor, a skunk and a hedgehog who
strike out to discover the great unknown, despite how afraid they
are of it. Charming illustrations and a laugh-out-loud story make
this chapter book perfect for fans of the Mercy Watson and Owl
Diaries series. Sydney is a skunk and Taylor is a hedgehog, but no
matter how odd the pairing may seem, their friendship comes
naturally. They live happily in their cozy burrow . . . until the
day Taylor gets his Big Idea to go see the Whole Wide World. From
mountains taller than a hundred hedgehogs, valleys wider than a
thousand skunks, to the dangers that lie in the human world, Sydney
and Taylor wanted to see it all. With a map and a dream, they
bravely set off, soon discovering that the world is much bigger
than they realized.
Max knows a lot about puppies. After all, he's wanted one his whole
life! So he's pretty much an expert. Grown-ups will warn you:
Puppies are a lot of work. And they're right! Your puppy will need
the perfect bed (which she'll never sleep in), the perfect toys
(though she prefers playing with shoes and socks), and the perfect
treats (she likes those, but she'll also have whatever you're
eating). Dogs aren't good listeners like kids are, and they have a
lot to learn. So you might have to take her to doggy school. (Her
favorite part will probably be recess.) Yup, a puppy is a big
responsiblity - but also a lot of fun, a lot of cute, a lot of
cuddle, and a lot of love. Full of humour, energy, and warmth, Max
Explains Everything: Puppy Expert is the perfect read aloud for
animal lovers everywhere.
The study is an investigation of service-learning pedagogy to
infuse passion into accounting education and develop the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) Core
Competencies. A sample of twenty-eight students in an accounting
class conducted research on the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
(VITA) Program. They conducted site research; designed and created
a website; developed and distributed advertising and training
materials; developed and implemented financial literacy training
classes for the socioeconomically marginalized people in our
community; and developed and implemented recruitment sessions for
VITA volunteers. Extensive qualitative data was collected from
student journals, meeting minutes, Blackboard discussions, focus
group interviews, and structured open-ended questionnaires;
researcher field notes and journals; and community member feedback.
Rich and in-depth evidence of student development of passion and
AICPA Core Competencies is provided by this multidimensional and
multidisciplinary service-learning experience enhanced by holistic
approaches (cognitive, affective, spiritual, multiple
intelligences, and inclusive education).
