50 years ago, the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision catalyzed the integration of schools. However, Wheeler provides compelling evidence that few, if any Library and Information Science programs were ever integrated. With an impressive cast of contributors that includes experienced faculty as well as students, this resource tackles the issue of diversity from three distinct perspectives: external and environmental forces, student recruitment, and faculty/curriculum issues. The contributors discuss all of the spokes on the wheel of LIS Education, from racial issues in the financial aid process, to the impact of technology in LIS students of color, from the recruitment of minority students to faculty development. Beyond showing where LIS programs have fallen short, the contributors to this volume serve to reinvigorate the discourse regarding the future.
"F" the Housewives is a tongue-in-cheek play on the current wave of
reality shows that narrowly depict the lives and values of TV
"Housewives." But more important, the book uses this pop culture
phenomenon as a platform to present a step-by-step guide to
rethinking how women define themselves, articulate and pursue their
lives' goals. DeEtta Jones draws upon her nearly twenty years of
research and professional practice, sprinkled with valuable life
experience, to open readers up to a new way of thinking about
themselves-to boldly step out as writers of their own life scripts.
Housewives is based on transformative concepts and practices used
by leaders of some of the world's most successful organizations. As
Jones translates them for individual consumption, consider this a
session with your own leadership coach and 'keepin'-it-real' BFF.
This book includes excerpts from some of my most popular blog
posts, presentations and other writing, along with new ideas and
material. It is meant to stimulate your thinking about each
strategy then give you structured guidance on how to incorporate
the strategy into your intentional leadership practice. I use the
term "leadership practice" as analogous to a yoga practice, or
pursuit of excellence in and mastery in any field or area of life.
The assumption is that leadership, like yoga, piano, sculpting or
healthy living, is something that you: 1) make commitment to, 2)
incorporate structured practice into your routine and 3) pursue
unwaveringly over time. Some days' performance will be better than
others', of course. You are not seeking perfect outcomes all the
time, but perfect practice.
