Every six minutes a handful of parish members (often no more than a
half dozen) bully, intimidate, threaten and blackmail successful
pastors into resigning their ministries. The wounds they inflict on
these pastors and their families remain with them for the balance
of their lives. Congregational leaders that stand with the pastors
are often attacked and left wounded from the same trauma. This is a
book of healing. It is written for senior pastors, music ministers,
lay professionals and lay leaders that are suffering with the
wounds of a sheep attack. The author examines the depth of the pain
that the antagonists are able to inflict. He brings forth the
damaging effects of Chronic Stress, Emotional Memories, Burnout and
Post Traumatic Stress Injury. Based on the experiences of over 200
clergy of virtually every branch of Christianity and Jewish Rabbis
he describes the methods they have utilized to heal and move
forward with their lives. This is the third book in the series on
"sheep attacks" by The Reverend Doctor Dennis Maynard. The others
are: "When Sheep Attack" and "Preventing A Sheep Attack."
This is the second book in the "sheep attack series." After
publishing the best selling "When Sheep Attack" the conversation
around a handful of antagonists attacking pastors and dividing
congregations has increased. This follow up book expands the
original 25 case studies to over 200 including clergy of virtually
every denomination, music ministers, other lay professionals and
lay leaders. This book is needed because educating denominational
lay leaders and healthy parish leaders on this behavior is the
first line of defense. In this book, Doctor Maynard exposes the
essential staff catalyst that fuels an attack on pastors. He also
lists a six point plan that has proven successful in stopping sheep
attacks. The book is written in a format that can be easily adapted
to vestry and board study. Examples of steps parish boards need to
take to assist with clergy health and wellness are included. There
are also examples of non-triangulation covenants every vestry and
board should adopt. Other topics included: Defining leadership
styles, Sabbaticals a two-edged sword, The quicksand around parish
day schools, Why it is inevitable someone will be ejected from the
congregational system after a sheep attack and others.
Modeling efforts for future space operation vehicles at the United
States Air Force Research Lab's Air Vehicles Directorate have been
focused towards the in flight mission. To better serve the research
and development effort, a simulation of the ground operations is
required allowing for trade-offs within turnaround operations and
between the components that drive those procedures. However, before
a simulation can be developed a conceptual model must be generated
to guide the model building process. This research provides a
baseline conceptual model for reusable space vehicles based on the
space shuttle as the only operational vehicle of its kind. The
model is built utilizing the Integrated Definition (IDEF)
methodology, specifically IDEF3. IDEF3 is focused towards
process-viewpoint diagramming and layout.
On this sixth visit to Falls City, Georgia and Historic First
Church (Episcopal), Dennis Maynard takes the readers through so
many twists and turns it will keep them turning the pages to see
what is going to happen next. You owe it to yourself to discover
why The Magnolia Series has become so popular. You'll be amazed at
just how many people you will recognize in these books. As their
stories unfold, readers find themselves laughing out loud, wiping
away a tear, and nodding their heads. The travails of Father Steele
Austin and his beautiful wife, Randi make for a great read. Readers
are left with an overwhelming desire for more visits to Falls City.
That's the very reason that the series now has six books.
Do you love your parish? Are you fond of your pastor? Would you
believe that in just a matter of a few weeks your pastor and his
family could be abused, humiliated, and unemployed? In just a
matter of days your parish could be split down the middle. A couple
of months from now close to forty percent of the people you
currently see at worship could no longer be there. Close to half of
those will never again attend worship or participate in any church.
Friends that you see talking and laughing this Sunday may never
speak again. If you want to do whatever you can to keep that
scenario from happening to your pastor and your parish, then this
book is for you. It is the product of nearly a decade of work with
parishes that are undergoing or have recently undergone the very
scenario described above. The substance of this book is based on
twenty-five case studies of clergy exercising faithful ministries
with positive results that were attacked by a small group of
antagonists in their congregations. The antagonists successfully
"removed their senior pastor." This book describes how it happened,
what could have been to stop it, and what can be done to prevent it
from happening to your pastor and parish. The Reverend Doctor
Dennis R. Maynard is the author of ten books. He has served as a
consultant to over one hundred parish and school boards in the
United States and Canada.
The fifth book in the Magnolia Series follows the Rector's struggle
with trust and betrayal in his own marriage. His suspicions about
his wife take a heavy toll on his health and his ministry. He
brings a woman priest on the staff in face of the congregation's
objections to doing so. Some reject her ministry totally. Then the
internal politics of the Church are exposed even further with the
election of a Bishop. Those with their own agenda manipulate the
election itself. Just when you think the tactics of those opposed
to the ministry of Steele Austin can't go any lower, they do.
In this sequel, as Father Austin and his wife wrestle with the
decision to leave First Church he finds himself embroiled in yet
one more controversy. His attempt to meet the needs of those that
have been rejected by their own families casts a dark cloud over
First Church. The pastoral crisis faced by one of his former
antagonists transforms their relationship into an endearing
friendship. The book concludes with one of the most suspense filled
cliffhangers yet. The reader will be left wanting yet another visit
to the colorful people that call Falls City home.
In this, the third book in the Magnolia Series, the Rector is
accused of embezzling parish funds by the core leadership of the
parish.
The Reverend Steele Austin wants to build an inclusive church. The
parish leaders want a church that can be a moral example to the
world. Steele believes he is being faithful to the teachings of
Jesus. His parish leaders believe Steele's gospel will destroy the
very foundation of marriage and family taught in the Bible. In
this, the second book in the Magnolia Series, Dennis Maynard takes
the reader back to Falls City, Georgia. Historic First Church is
one of the oldest and most prestigious parishes in the entire
state. The Reverend Steele Austin is an unusual match to such a
distinguished congregation. He continually challenges the parish
members to confront their own secrets of sex, greed, and power..
You won't want to miss this, the second installment, of life in
Falls City, Georgia.
The Gospel of a young Episcopal priest conflicts with the secrets
of sex, greed, and power in an old southern community.
