Sid James triple. In 'The Big Job' (1965), a gang of hapless crooks successfully perpetrate a robbery only to be caught after the fact. Fifteen years later they emerge from prison intent on retrieving their stolen loot - and discover that a police station has been built over its hiding place. Sylvia Syms, Dick Emery, Jim Dale and Joan Sims co-star. In 'Make Mine a Milluion' (1959), an ad-man teams up with a make-up artist in a cunning plot to advertise Bonko detergent on non-commercial television. Despite the trouble it causes, the plan proves a great success and the two chaps soon set up a pirate television station with the intention of beaming their advertisements into other company's TV shows. Again the idea proves successful - but just how long can these two go on avoiding their come-uppance? 'The Lavender Hill Mob' (1951) is a classic Ealing comedy. Nobody would ever suspect gold bullion delivery man Henry Holland (Alec Guinness) of anything other than total devotion to his job. However, with the aid of fellow lodger Pendlebury (Stanley Holloway), he gathers together a gang to carry out a heist, intending to smuggle the gold out of the country by melting it down into miniature models of the Eiffel Tower. All goes well until the consignment of models becomes muddled up with another, non-golden batch. Watch out for an early cameo by Audrey Hepburn.
Classic comic espionage caper from Disney studios starring Peter Ustinov and Derek Nimmo. Lord Southmere (Nimmo) hides a top-secret microfilm containing the formula for the mysterious 'Lotus X' in a dinosaur skeleton at the Natural History Museum in London after narrowly escaping from a gang of ruthless Chinese spies. When he realises that the spies are following him, he instructs his former nanny Hettie (Helen Hayes) to retrieve the microfilm. Southmere is then promptly recaptured by the head spy, Hnup Wan (Peter Ustinov), while the resourceful Hettie assembles a group of fellow nannies to help her search for the microfilm. But the nannies are up against the cunning of the evil spy gang, who will stop at nothing to get to the prized Lotus X before Hettie and her helpers.
Crazy goings-on in a hospital form the basis of this comedy, in which one man thinks he only has a week to live, while the rest of the patients lead a revolution against the staff. Frankie Howerd joins Sid James and most of the 'Carry On' regulars.
Every episode from Series 1-4 of the 1970s LWT sitcom starring John Alderton as Bernard Hedges, put-upon teacher of the wayward class 5C at Fenn Street School. Hedges' lot is unenviable - nosey, jobsworth caretaker Norman Potter (Derrick Guyler) frustrates his every move with rules and regulations, student Maureen Bullock (Liz Gebhart) nurses a huge crush on him and the class's usual suspects, led by wide-boy Eric Duffy, (Peter Cleal) run him ragged. Also includes the 1971 spin-off feature film, which centres on a chaotic trip to the country for the unruly class of 5C, who taunt a rival school, visit a pub and start huge food fights.
