This book provides a comprehensive overview of various aspects of
the development of smart cities from a secure, trusted, and
reliable data transmission perspective. It presents theoretical
concepts and empirical studies, as well as examples of smart city
programs and their capacity to create value for citizens. The
contributions offer a panorama of the most important aspects of
smart city evolution and implementation within various frameworks,
such as healthcare, education, and transportation. Comparing
current advanced applications and best practices, the book
subsequently explores how smart environments and programs could
help improve the quality of life in urban spaces and promote
cultural and economic development.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second
Symposium on Machine Learning and Metaheuristics Algorithms, and
Applications, SoMMA 2020, held in Chennai, India, in October 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held online. The 12
full papers and 7 short papers presented in this volume were
thoroughly reviewed and selected from 40 qualified submissions. The
papers cover such topics as machine learning, artificial
intelligence, Internet of Things, modeling and simulation,
disctibuted computing methodologies, computer graphics, etc.
This book highlights new methods, algorithms and software for the
digital processing and recovery of signals. In addition, it
describes a new method for modeling one dimensional and
multidimensional signals as successions of local polynomial splines
and their spectral characteristics. It provides examples of how the
proposed methods can be applied in specific cases, together with
signal processing software examples in the MATLAB environment, and
models of special processes in the Simulink environment. The book's
goal is to make it easier for beginners to understand the subject
matter; it is intended for engineers, undergraduate and graduate
students engaged in research or the evaluation and design of
hardware and software for the digital processing and recovery of
signals.
