The Declaration Nostra Aetate issued by the Second Vatican Council on October 28, 1965, on 'the relationship of the Church to non-Christian religions' marks a revolutionary milestone in the history of interreligious relations. With this document the Catholic Church sought to establish a new climate in which encounter and dialogue were understood as part of the Church's role in the world. As such, Nostra Aetate expresses the dialogical spirit of the Second Vatican Council. This book is inspired by the same dialogical spirit of Nostra Aetate, addressing some of the difficult theological challenges that lie ahead of us. It takes Nostra Aetate as an ongoing challenge to develop new theological reflections in the dialogical spirit of Vatican II. The contributors in this volume therefore do not only look to the past, but also critically articulate the challenges and obstacles confronting Jewish-Christian relations today, all the while looking forward to strengthening the dialogue. They not only show the courage of naming the resistances against dialogue, the remnants of substitution theology, the asymmetry in Jewish-Christian dialogue; they set out to develop new perspectives for the theology of Jewish-Christian dialogue. This volume makes clear how Nazism was not only an attack on the human species and the Jewish people in particular, but also an attack on nature. Further, it examines the victims of the Holocaust for whom nature was not only a source of supplementary pain, but also a source of hope and redemption. The book reveals parallels between the attitudes of the bystanders during the Holocaust and us - bystanders today - watching the ecological disaster with the same passivity. The book's unique conclusion will challenge each reader. In addition to teaching us to be critical about our concepts of nature, as well as to remember the victims, the Holocaust also teaches us to become rescuers rather than bystanders in light of the contemporary destruction of nature. The problem of anti-Judaism in the Forth Gospel is a complex matter that has historical, sociological, and theological dimensions. It involves the study of the original texts and their reception and effects throughout history as well as their ethical and theological implications in the perspective of Christian-Jewish dialogue. A selection of essays from the 2000 Leuven Conference, Anti-Judaism and the Fourth Gospel presents the views of Johannine scholars from around the world on this important topic.

Reactions to the New Perspective, both positive and critical, and sometimes even strongly negative, reflect a more fundamental problem in the reception of this paradigm: the question of continuity and discontinuity between Judaism and Christianity and its assumed implications for Jewish-Christian dialogue. A second key problem revolves around Paul's understanding of salvation as exclusive, inclusive or pluralist. The contributions in the present volume represent at least six approaches that can be plotted along this axis, considering Paul's theology in its Jewish context. William S. Campbell and Thomas R. Blanton consider Paul's Covenantal Theology, Michael Bachman provides an exegetical study of Paul, Israel and the Gentiles, and Mark D. Nanos considers Paul and Torah.
