Urban environmental landscaping is a very important component of the city, it can not only add to the aesthetic feeling of the city, but also have the effect of keeping the connection and relationship between humans and nature. This book selects a vast range of excellent urban landscape design projects from all over the world, and presents these masterpieces in four categories: public park design, public plaza design, waterfront public open space design and urban street design. For each part, we selected the most striking cases with the newest design standards to showcase spectacular landscape design.

After decades of being banished from residential areas, water is now becoming an increasingly significant feature in urban design. Whether it is the integration of natural water courses into the built environment, rainwater management, the incorporation of water elements in urban areas for climatic purposes or the creation of oases of tranquility or drama such as pools or fountains - all these aspects are not only encountering renewed interest among architects and urban planners, but they are also greeted with appreciation by the general public. This book reveals the wide variety of possibilities for using water as a creative element in the city, in art, in the landscape and architecture. The works are organized in seven categories and encompass large-scale masterplans, urban plazas and parks, river restaurations but also interior design schemes and art objects. Amongst the works documented are the landscape design for Dubai Business Park, a river restauration in Bishan Park in Singapore, landscaping for a new town in Tianjin, China, the schemes for Telecom Park, Taipei and Vuores Central Park in Tampere, Finland, and the design for Civic Square Seattle. Herbert Dreiseitl, born in 1955, is a sculptor, water artist and landscape architect. After his studies, he set up his office, Atelier Dreiseitl, in UEberlingen on Lake Constance in 1980. He has realised numerous projects in the fields of stormwater management, water art and landscape architecture. He is active in lecturing worldwide and his work is widely published. Dieter Grau, born in 1963, gardener and landscape architect, has been working for the Atelier Dreiseitl since 1994. In 1996 he became head of the landscape architecture department there. He is involved in planning projects around the world and lectures frequently.

Water has been an important topic in architecture and urban planning for years. The revitalization of the waterfront has been a prevalent trend in cities around the world. On the other hand, architecture also had to respond to the threat of floods. The theme of Building with Water is the use of water in architecture. It presents buildings that explicitly refer to water in their design and form. It establishes a typology of building by the water: residential structures, recreation facilities, industry and infrastructure, buildings for culture and art. The various design parameters are explored in four essays. Subsequently, twenty-two international projects are presented, organized according to their locations by a river, a lake or the sea. The authors' concern is not to show luxurious buildings in privileged locations but rather presenting projects that seriously grapple with the main criterion of the location-namely, water-in an ecologically sustainable way and respond to it with their design. Ebenso werden einleitend klassische Beispiele des Bauens am/im/auf dem Wasser gezeigt, wie etwa Chateau de Chenonceaux an der Loire, Falling Water in Pennsylvania von Frank Lloyd Wright oder das Salk Institute in La Jolla,Kalifornien, von Louis I. Kahn. Geordnet nach ihren Standorten am Fluss, See oder Meer, werden dann etwa 20 internationale Projekte vorgestellt.
