This volume contains papers presented at the International Conference on Software Process (ICSP 2009) held in Vancouver, Canada, during May 16-17, 2009. ICSP 2009 was the third conference of the ICSP series, continuing the software process workshops from 25 years ago. The theme of ICSP 2009 was "Processes to Develop Trustworthy Software." Software development takes place in a dynamic context of frequently changing technologies and limited resources. Teams worldwide are under increasing pressure to deliver trustworthy software products more quickly and with higher levels of quality. At the same time, global competition is forcing software development organizations to cut costs by rationalizing processes, outsourcing part or all of their activities, re- ing existing software in new or modified applications and evolving existing systems to meet new needs, while still minimizing the risk of projects failing to deliver. To address these difficulties, new or modified processes are emerging including lean and agile methods, plan-based product line development, and increased integration with systems engineering processes. Papers present research and real-world experience in many areas of software and systems processes impacting trustworthy software including: new software devel- ment approaches; software quality; integrating software and business processes; CMMI and other process improvement initiatives; simulation and modeling of so- ware processes; techniques for software process representation and analysis; and process tools and metrics.

At the same time, global competition is forcing software development organizations to cut costs by rationalizing processes, outsourcing part of or all development activities, reusing existing software in new or modified applications, and evolving existing systems to meet new needs, while still minimizing the risk of projects failing to deliver. To address these difficulties, new and modified processes are emerging, including agile methods and plan-based product line development. Open Source, COTS, and com- nity-developed software are becoming more and more popular. Outsourcing coupled with 24/7 development demands well-defined processes to support the coordination of organizationally-and geographically-separated teams. The accepted papers present completed research or advanced work-in-progress in all areas of software and systems development process including: agile software pr- esses, CMMI, novel techniques for software process representation and analysis; process tools and metrics; and the simulation and modeling of software processes. Contributions reflecting real-world experience, or derived directly from industrial or open-source software development and evolution, were particularly welcome.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Software Process, held in Minneapolis, MN, USA, in May 2007. The 28 revised full papers presented together with the abstracts of two keynote addresses cover process content, process tools and metrics, process management, process representation, analysis and modeling, experience report, and simulation modeling.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the International Dagstuhl-Seminar on Empirical Software Engineering, held in Dagstuhl Castle, Germany in June 2006. The 54 revised full papers in this state-of-the-art survey are organized in topical sections on the empirical paradigm, measurement and model building, technology transfer and education, as well as roadmapping.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First joint International Software Process Workshop and the International Workshop on Software Process Simulation and Modeling, SPW/ProSim 2006. The 34 revised full papers presented together with 4 keynote addresses are organized in topical sections on process tailoring and decision-support, process tools and metrics, process management, process representation, analysis and modeling, process simulation modeling, process simulation applications, and experience report.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Product-Focused Software Process Improvement, PROFES 2018, held in Wolfsburg, Germany, in November 2018. The 16 revised full papers and 8 short papers presented together with 10 workshop papers and 2 industry talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 65 submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: processes and methods; empirical studies in industry; testing; measuremene and monitoring; and global software engineering and scaling. Further relevant topics were added by the events co-located with PROFES 2018, the Second International Workshop on Managing Quality in Agile and Rapid Software Development Processes (QUASD) and the Third Workshop on Hybrid Software and System Development Approaches (HELENA).
