"This collection brings together adult education theorists and
practitioners from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean
(and diaspora from these regions) in an attempt to foreground
issues, concepts, theories, and practices of adult education in
Southern locations. Key contributions include contemporary
theoretical implications of the works of Nyerere, Freire,
Confucious, Mao, Buddhism, and African indigenous conceptions along
with current discussion pertaining to globalization, citizenship,
and adult education and learning in subaltern social movements.
Case studies from all regions address the context-specific
grounding of these theoretical and conceptual discussions, while
addressing higher education, community, movement, and NGO/civil
society spaces of engagement."--BOOK JACKET.
The book describes the alliance, since the mid-1980s, of the
entrepreneurs of the Chinese diaspora with the new locally based
industrialisation that reform in China has allowed to flourish in
its townships and villages. The synergy between these two derives
from the ability of small non-bureaucratic actors on both sides to
establish networks based on personal trust and reciprocity,
producing a new kind of transformative development-from-below in
which established Western and Japanese multinationals have little
role.
The dynamics, politics, and richness of knowledge production in
social movements and social activist contexts are often overlooked.
This book contends that some of the most radical critiques and
understandings about dominant ideologies and power structures, and
visions of social change, have emerged from those spaces. Written
by authors working closely with diverse social movements, NGOs, and
popular mobilizations in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, the
Americas, and the Caribbean, it articulates and documents knowledge
production, informal learning, and education work that takes place
in everyday worlds of social activism. It highlights linkages
between such knowledge(s) and praxis/action, and illustrates
tensions over whose knowledge and voice(s) are heard.
The investigation and management of ear disease occupies a
significant portion of a veterinary clinician s time. Otitis
externa, in particular, is likely to be seen by a busy small animal
clinician at least once a day. Otitis Externa: An Essential Guide
to Diagnosis and Treatment provides a comprehensive source of
information on the relevant structure, function, medical treatment,
and surgery of the ear, from "Otodectes cynotis "to "Pseudomonas
aeruginosa." The book details the salient points of diagnosis and
treatment and includes more than 200 colour illustrations.
Topics include:
- The anatomic relationship of the components of the external,
middle, and inner ear and normal ear function
- Diagnosis of otitis externa, including history, examination,
biopsy, and imagin
- The aetiology and pathogenesis of otitis externa
- Proper ear cleaning and assessing the integrity of the
tympanum, the discharge, and the canal
- Medical management of ear disease and primary and secondary
causes
- Clinical signs, diagnosis, and management of otitis media
- Ototoxicity and other side effects of otic medication
- Aural ablation and bulla osteotomy
Chronic, and chronic recurrent, otitis externa is frustrating
and costly to the owner and often painful for the animal. Concise
and user-friendly, this text helps clinicians identify signs of
this condition, make an appropriate diagnosis, and plan the best
treatment options. "
Dominance used to be a diagnosis for all manner of badly behaved
dogs, but what really is a Dominant Dog? David looks at the myths
that surround Dominance and how modern trainers handle dogs that
might previously have been labelled Dominant. If you want to know
what Dominance really means, why enlightened trainers and
behaviourists have discarded it as a diagnosis, and what has
replaced it, or if you are struggling to deal with a dog you have
been told is Dominant, this is the book for you...

This book demonstrates how processes of globalization (economic,
cultural, socio-political) are creating new possibilities and
inequities and are thereby creating corresponding roles for adult
education and learning in the South (Africa, Asia, South America)
that are embedded in multiple political, economic and cultural
projects for social change.
This collection considers academic research engagements with
indigenous, small peasant, urban poor and labour social activism
against colonial capitalist dispossession and exploitation in Asia
and the Americas. Bringing together contributors from a range of
different disciplines, Research, Political Engagement and
Dispossession demonstrates how research done for and with these
struggles against dispossession by mining, agribusiness
plantations, conversation schemes, land-forest grabs, water
projects, industrial disasters and the exploitation of workers and
forced migrants, can make productive contributions towards
advancing their social and political prospects.

in the operating room. Written by residents and highly experienced
attending surgeons, Mental Conditioning to Perform Common
Operations in General Surgery Training: A Systematic Approach to
Expediting Skill Acquisition and Maintaining Dexterity in
Performance provides a comprehensive systematic approach to
performing surgical procedures.
Anxiety causing disorders are scary, confusing and beyond most
people's comprehension. The idea of this deliberately concise book
is to give you the information and understanding that you'll need
to begin your mental health healing journey as quickly as possible.
Most sufferers of anxiety-causing disorders have little idea why
their mind is seemingly working against them. They may understand
the mechanics of anxiety but not why they suffer from it and why it
won't just go away. Even those who have been in long term therapy
frustratingly find that instead of resolving their issues, they
just seem to be talking around in circles making very little
progress. Understating how the mind works, creating a mindset
conducive to change and having a plan of action are crucial in
overcoming any mental health challenge. This book explains the
mind's operation and the creation of belief systems. It explores
the origins of anxiety causing problems and the subconscious
drivers that maintain them. It touches on the influence of the mind
on the body and its involvement with chronic pain and illness. It
also includes some empowering ideas that will challenge the way you
think about yourself. Not only is the information in this book
suitable for sufferers, but for anyone helping a family member or
friend with an anxiety causing problem. Even health professionals
will benefit from reading this book as it endeavours to explain why
much of the good advice they give to their clients so often falls
on barren ground.
