The project, titled Fracture ResistanceofSteelsfor Containers of Spent Nuclear Fuel, was focused (i) on the generation of data needed for the qualification procedure of a new container introduced by Skoda Nuclear Machinery and (ii) on a number of topics of scientific nature associated with the interesting field of transferability of fracture mechanical data-, It has been found during numerous conference presentations of project results that the knowledge developed within the project would be more attractive when published in a more comprehensive form. This was the reason why the final project workshop was arranged as a meeting of project collaborators and contributing invited experts working in very similar field. The main scope of the final project workshop, titled Transferability of Fracture Mechanical Data and held in Brno from 5 to 6 November 200I, was to bring together project collaborators with a number of invited international experts, both covering the spectrum of topics solved within the project and reviewing the project results in the presence ofthese specialists. A totalof34 colleagues from 7 European countries and the USA participated in the workshop.

Modeling is a helpful tool when we try to understand some complex issues. It reduces complexity to a simple, easy to understand model. In this book, the most difficult intricacy is selected for scrutiny: The universe and our existence. This book addresses the eccentrics of quantum mechanics: quantum superposition and quantum entanglement, and explains why objects exist only if they are observed. The impracticality of time travel is explained, together with the time dilation, effecting the interplanetary travel and communications. Explained also is the reason why some planets emit ultra-short radiation instead of light. Our model confirms the possibility of parallel universes, the possible existence of more than one god, and it definitely excludes Darwin's evolution theory. This book does not require deeper understanding of physics or mathematics. The only requirement is the willingness to think.

What for a song is its melody, for a poem is its rhyme. This is not just my own belief, but one shared by many others, especially by poets of nineteen century. As to living body is the heart what gives it regular rhythm, the same does rhyme and melody for the poetry and music. It could be argued that in the eyes of many, there are some remarkable songs without a trace of any distinct melody and the same could be said about poetry without rhyme. It could be also said that there are uncounted statues, modeled on living bodies, beautiful, but not alive. What is in all of them missing, is that pounding heart. This is a collection of selected work of Bohemian romantic poets from the nineteen century. From times, which I believe, the European civilization was reaping its greatest cultural accomplishments. Literature and music composed at that time is still remembered and highly praised. Czechs would have next to nothing of their cultural heritage, if it wasn't for Bedrich Smetana and Antonin Dvorak, for Macha, Erben, Vrchlicky and many others from that century. Similarly, most other nations also draw their most famous representatives of their culture exactly from the same era. In this translation I tried, as much as I was able, to adhere to poetry's original form, with corresponding meaning and rhyming sentences. Particularly in Macha's "May" I dutifully copied his sometimes "chaotic" style, as some of his critics claimed when it was first self-published in 1836. After his death his work was appreciated though, and despite all his contemporary critics, he is now recognized as the greatest Bohemian poet. This book contains only a small selection of authors and even smaller selection of their poetry. Since I was guided only by my preferences and limitations, it might not represent exactly the typical poetry of these poets. However, I believe that this selection will give you, the reader, at least a succinct reflection, just a mere glimpse, into Bohemian poetry of the eighteen century. My illustrations in this book are there only to help you to construct an appropriate time frame with corresponding scenes, depicted in each piece of poetry. They are unfortunately inadequate and are only imaginary glimpses of that long forgotten romantic world, into which this poetry will hopefully lure you. George Dlouhy

Tato kniha je jen malym oknem do tohoto prekrasneho sveta, ktery v budoucnosti treba jiz vubec nebude existovat. Die globale Erwarmung und der Meeresspiegelanstieg haben sich beschleunigt, ebenso das Abschmelzen der Gletscher und Eiskappen. Ausser Diskussion steht mittlerweile auch, dass im weltweiten Durchschnitt menschliches Handeln seit 1750 das Klima erwarmt hat. Dieser Vorgang wurde vorrangig durch den fossilen Brennstoffverbrauch, die intensivierte Landwirtschaft und eine geanderte Landnutzung hervorgerufen (Internet 8). Dass der Klimawandel Konsequenzen nach sich ziehen wird, steht ausser Frage und wird aktuell in Medien breit diskutiert. Einige Szenarien konnten wie folgt aussehen: Die Ozeane werden sich erwarmen und die Gletscher schmelzen. Infolge dessen wird der Meeresspiegel steigen und Salzwasser die besiedelten Gebiete flacher Kustenregionen uberfluten. Folglich werden sich die landwirtschaftlichen Zonen verschieben und das Wetter wechselhafter und extremer (z. B. Sturme, Durren und Starkregen). Weniger Beachtung in der Offentlichkeit finden Sekundarfolgen, jedoch sind diese nicht minder schadlich. Ein Indiz dafur, der beunruhigenderweise bereits seine Bestatigung in der Realitat gefunden, sind das haufigere Auftreten und die schnellere Ausbreitung von Krankheiten. Auf der anderen Seite kann ein Klimawandel durchaus auch gunstige Effekte mit sich bringen. Haufig jedoch laufen sie unbemerkt im Meer aus oder enden an den Ufern nur noch als kleine harmlose Wellen. Der Begriff Tsunami stammt aus dem Japanischen und setzt sich aus zwei Wortern zusammen, namlich Tsu" = Hafen" und Nami" = Welle," demnach also Hafenwelle." Benannt wurden die Wellen von japanischen Fischern, welche bei ihrer Ruckkehr ans Land nur noch ein zerstortes Dorf vorgefunden haben. Wie auch der Tsunami in Sudost Asien vom 24. Dezember 2004 unter Beweis stellte, steckt hinter dieser eher harmlos erscheinenden Bezeichnung, die wohl fur die Kustenregionen gefahrlichste Naturkatastrophe uberhaupt. Hierbei wurden aufgrund geringer Aufklarung und mangelnder Fruhwarnsysteme, Tausende von Menschen durch die Fluten eines Tunamis getotet, ganze Kustenstreifen verwustet und es entstand ein materieller Schaden in Milliardenhohe. Dieses Ereignis erweckte enormes Aufsehen in der Offentlichkeit, was die grosste Hilfsaktion der Geschichte als Folge hatte. Letztlich pragte sich somit auch das Ausmass der Zerstorung eines Tsunamis in das Bewusstsein der Menschen ein, sorgte fur Aufklarung und forderte die Ausbreitung und Ausreifung von Fruhwarnsystemen und Schutzmassnahmen. Folgende Arbeit soll nun erklaren, wie ein Tsunami entsteht, welche Folgen er fur Mensch und Natur hat und wie er rechtzeitig erkannt wird beziehungsweise wie man sich vor ihm schutzen ka
