Functionals of Finite Riemann Surfaces (Hardcover): Menahem Schiffer, Donald Clayton Spencer Functionals of Finite Riemann Surfaces (Hardcover)
Menahem Schiffer, Donald Clayton Spencer
R6,674 Discovery Miles 66 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

An investigation of finite Riemann surfaces from the point of view of functional analysis, that is, the study of the various Abelian differentials of the surface in their dependence on the surface itself. Many new results are presented. Originally published in 1954. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Global Analysis - Papers in Honor of K. Kodaira (PMS-29) (Hardcover): Donald Clayton Spencer, Shokichi Iyanaga Global Analysis - Papers in Honor of K. Kodaira (PMS-29) (Hardcover)
Donald Clayton Spencer, Shokichi Iyanaga
R6,137 Discovery Miles 61 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Global analysis describes diverse yet interrelated research areas in analysis and algebraic geometry, particularly those in which Kunihiko Kodaira made his most outstanding contributions to mathematics. The eminent contributors to this volume, from Japan, the United States, and Europe, have prepared original research papers that illustrate the progress and direction of current research in complex variables and algebraic and differential geometry. The authors investigate, among other topics, complex manifolds, vector bundles, curved 4-dimensional space, and holomorphic mappings. Bibliographies facilitate further reading in the development of the various studies. Originally published in 1970. Lie Equations, Vol. I - General Theory. (AM-73) (Paperback): Antonio Kumpera, Donald Clayton Spencer Lie Equations, Vol. I - General Theory. (AM-73) (Paperback)
Antonio Kumpera, Donald Clayton Spencer
R3,189 Discovery Miles 31 890 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In this monograph the authors redevelop the theory systematically using two different approaches. A general mechanism for the deformation of structures on manifolds was developed by Donald Spencer ten years ago. A new version of that theory, based on the differential calculus in the analytic spaces of Grothendieck, was recently given by B. Malgrange. The first approach adopts Malgrange's idea in defining jet sheaves and linear operators, although the brackets and the non-linear theory arc treated in an essentially different manner. The second approach is based on the theory of derivations, and its relationship to the first is clearly explained. The introduction describes examples of Lie equations and known integrability theorems, and gives applications of the theory to be developed in the following chapters and in the subsequent volume.
