The Kingdom (2007)
When a terrorist bomb detonates inside a Western housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an international incident is ignited. While diplomats slowly debate equations of territorialism, FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) quickly assembles an elite team and negotiates a secret five-day trip into Saudi Arabia to locate the madman behind the bombing. Upon landing in the desert kingdom, however, Fleury and his team discover Saudi authorities suspicious and unwelcoming of American interlopers into what they consider a local matter. Hamstrung by protocol, and with the clock ticking on their five days, the FBI agents find their expertise worthless without the trust of their Saudi counterparts who want to locate the terrorist in their homeland on their own terms. Fleury's crew finds a like-minded partner in Saudi Police Captain Al-Ghazi (Ashraf Barhom), who helps them navigate royal politics and unlock the secrets of the crime scene and the workings of an extremist, hell bent on further destruction.

Jarhead (2006)
An adaptation of former Marine Anthony Swofford's Gulf War memoir. Young recruit Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal) joins up with the US Marines (nicknamed 'Jarheads' because of their distinctive haircuts) on the eve of the 1990 Gulf War. After a brutal spell in boot camp, during which Swofford and his fellow recruits are systematically geared up for the conflict, the Marines are dispatched to the deserts of the Persian Gulf to take part in a war that sees them required to do very little in the way of fighting. Bored and frustrated in the middle of nowhere, the young soldiers resort to a macabre sense of humour as they wait for the war to happen to them.

Drawing its inspiration from Anthony Mann's 'The Fall of the Roman Empire' (1964) and Stanley Kubrick's 'Spartacus' (1960), Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning take on the Roman epic lavishes the genre with the very latest in computer-generated effects technology. After the death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) betrays the Emperor's beloved General Maximus (Russell Crowe) and takes the throne for himself. Maximus is sold as a slave and then trained as a gladiator, keeping himself strong with thoughts of revenge. Eventually he is taken to the Colosseum, where he prepares to fight in a contest presided over by the corrupt Commodus. Will he suffer the ultimate humiliation and die for the entertainment of his enemy or will he survive the rigors of the arena and find a way of exacting his revenge?

Baz Luhrmann writes, directs and produces this adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. Set in the 1920s, the story follows aspiring writer Nick Carraway (Maguire) as he moves to New York and becomes intrigued by his neighbour Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio)'s lavish lifestyle and mysterious past. As Nick finds himself caught up in the world of the wealthy, he witnesses romantic entanglement and betrayal. Gatsby's true nature is slowly exposed and his involvement with old flame Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan) ultimately leads to tragedy. The soundtrack was overseen by Jay-Z and features music from, amongst others, Beyoncé, André 3000, Will.i.am, Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine, as well as Jay-Z himself.

Box set containing all three 'Stuart Little' movies, starring Michael J. Fox as the loveable rodent. In 'Stuart Little' (2000), when Mr and Mrs Little (Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis) visit an orphanage to find a brother for their son George (Jonathan Lipnicki) they come away with a charming talking mouse called Stuart. After initial misgivings, George and Stuart begin to get on famously, and everything seems to be going perfectly; but unknown to the family, the neighbourhood cats have ganged together with the sole intention of getting rid of Stuart. In 'Stuart Little 2' (2002), feeling lonely in his adoptive home, Stuart is happy to make a new friend in the form of the bird Margalo (voice of Melanie Griffith), who crash-lands next to him when he is on his way home from school. Margalo goes with Stuart to visit his family, but after being coaxed by the bullying Falcon (voice of James Woods), she is eventually persuaded to steal Mrs Little's (Davis) wedding ring. When she subsequently disappears from the Little's home, Stuart sets off on a daring rescue mission through the big city to save her from Falcon's clutches. Finally, in 'Stuart Little 3' (2005), school's out for the summer and the Littles are spending their vacation at a beautiful lakeside cabin. Leading the way is Stuart, who can't wait to become a Scout and spend his entire vacation canoeing, hiking and being the outdoorsy little guy he claims to be. But there is something lurking in the forest which could spoil the fun.
