Marisa Dimitrov is desperate to leave her impoverished home country
of Bulgaria. When she receives a job offer from Canada, it appears
her opportunity has arrived. She is soon shocked to discover,
however, that she has been sold to a ruthless gang involved with
human and drug trafficking. By miraculous chance, the enslaved
Marisa is able to get word of her plight home to her father. Her
father trades everything he has to reach Canada, where he employs
the assistance of washed-up former Toronto drug squad officer, Dan
Huberman. Together, they are able to discover Marisa's location,
but finding the young woman is only the beginning of their
troubles. The gang takes swift and brutal retribution, sending Dan
and Marisa on the run for their lives. Their only hope is in
gathering evidence to implicate the gang leader, a merciless
Chechen warlord, and by doing so diminish the gang's far-reaching
power. Dan soon realizes this case isn't just about Marisa; it's
also about the ghost of his dead daughter, who died because of his
own mistakes. By saving Marisa, he may find peace ... but staying
alive can be difficult when you don't know who to trust, and the
line between loyalty and betrayal is so blurred.
The book entitled “Biogenic Nanomaterial for Health and
Environment" covers the synthesis, characterization, and
applications of nanomaterials, synthesized using living organisms
like bacteria, algae, fungi, plants, and biomolecules derived from
them. This book is intended to meet the needs of undergraduate and
graduate-level students of chemistry, biology, nanotechnology, and
chemical engineering disciplines. The book will also serve as a
useful reference work for researchers working in the fields of
nanochemistry, material science, biology, and industrial chemistry.
Features · A systematic overview of the biogenic synthesis
nanomaterial. · Recent research results and pointers to the
advancement in the field. · Discuss putative applications of
biogenic nanomaterials in health and the environment with a main
emphasis on biocidal activity, disease diagnosis, drug delivery,
and sensing and remediation of pollutants from the environment.
This book is compiled in such a way that it aids in understanding
the underpinning concepts of the biogenic synthesis of
nanoparticles. The Biogenic synthesis of nanoparticles delivers
more important and effective prospects for nanotechnology
researchers. The biomass derived from various organisms acts as
templates for the synthesis of nanoparticles with desired
structural and featural aspects. The rewards of employing biomass
and molecules derived from organism of choice in the synthesis
process of nanoparticles are able to enhance the electrochemical
consistency, control particle size, reduce toxicity, and escalate
reactivity in an eco-friendly way. This book will provide the
latest insights into the synthesis of nanomaterials employing
biomass, cell extract, or as a whole, of various organisms and
their roles in the health and remediation of the environment.
Supercapacitors: Materials, Design, and Commercialization provides
a comprehensive overview of the latest research trends and
opportunities in supercapacitors, and particularly in terms of
novel materials and electrolytes. The book will address the
transformation in supercapacitive technology from double layer
capacitance to battery-type capacitance, providing a clear
understanding of the conceptual differences between various charge
storage processes for supercapacitors, charge storage based on
materials and electrolytes, and calculation for capacitance for
these charge processes. Detailed chapters discuss recent
developments in materials, such as carbons, chalcogenides, MXene
and phosphorene, various polymer nanocomposites, and
polyoxometalates for supercapacitors. This is followed by in-depth
coverage of electrolytes, including the evolution of electrolytes
from aqueous to water-in-salt electrolytes and their role in
improving the energy density of supercapacitors. The final part of
the book examines the role of artificial intelligence in the design
of supercapacitors, and latest developments in translating novel
supercapacitor technologies from laboratory-scale research to a
commercialization. This is a valuable resource for advanced
students, researchers, and scientists in the fields of energy
storage, electrical engineering, materials science, and chemical
engineering, as well as engineers and R&D personnel working
with supercapacitors or energy storage in an industrial setting.
"Gunya is a woman in her late twenties. Soldiers of the Lord's
Resistance Army (LRA) abducted her when she was eleven years old
and forcefully conscripted her into the rebel ranks. Gunya spent a
little over a decade with the rebels before deserting. While there,
she gave birth to a son with Onen, an LRA soldier. Though abducted,
she expresses her continued support for the LRA and their tactics,
admitting that she sometimes thinks of going back to the lum [bush]
when life becomes hard as a civilian at home." This is not a book
about crimes against humanity. Rather, it is an indictment of the
very idea of humanity, the concept that lies at the heart of human
rights and humanitarian missions. Based on fieldwork in northern
Uganda, anthropologist and medical doctor Sam Dubal brings readers
into the inner circle of the Lord's Resistance Army, an insurgent
group accused of rape, forced conscription of children, and
inhumane acts of violence. Dubal speaks with former LRA rebels as
they find personal meaning in wartime violence, politics, and
spirituality-experiences that observers often place outside of
humanity's boundaries. What emerges is an unorthodox and
provocative question: What would it mean to be truly against
humanity? And how does one honor life existing outside hegemonic
notions of the good?
Metal Oxides in Supercapacitors addresses the fundamentals of metal
oxide-based supercapacitors and provides an overview of recent
advancements in this area. Metal oxides attract most of the
materials scientists use due to their excellent physico-chemical
properties and stability in electrochemical systems. This
justification for the usage of metal oxides as electrode materials
in supercapacitors is their potential to attain high capacitance at
low cost. After providing the principles, the heart of the book
discusses recent advances, including: binary metal oxides-based
supercapacitors, nanotechnology, ternary metal oxides,
polyoxometalates and hybrids. Moreover, the factors affecting the
charge storage mechanism of metal oxides are explored in detail.
The electrolytes, which are the soul of supercapacitors and a
mostly ignored character of investigations, are also exposed in
depth, as is the fabrication and design of supercapacitors and
their merits and demerits. Lastly, the market status of
supercapacitors and a discussion pointing out the future scope and
directions of next generation metal oxides based supercapacitors is
explored, making this a comprehensive book on the latest,
cutting-edge research in the field.

Antelopes in Ethiopia are facing increasing challenges posed by
anthropogenic pressures emanating from habitat destruction for
human settlements, agricultural land expansion, livestock rearing,
and illegal killings or poaching. As a result some of the antelope
species were categorized as Endangered, while many as Threatened.
These wildlife species, including the endemic Mountain Nyala are
unique and valuable natural heritages that need to be protected and
conserved for the coming generations. In Ethiopia, there are Laws
and polices that are endorsed and meant to protect and conserve
such species, but they are rarely materialized for various reasons.
Hence, I recommend and dedicate this book for those who in one way
or another dedicate their life for betterment of wildlife resources
of the world, particularly endangered wild animals and antelopes of
Ethiopia.

As the editors point out, "rock art is the oldest archive of human
activity," and its interpretation, although fraught with difficulty
is thus of prime importance. This collection of papers, taken from
the 15th UISPP congress, mainly look at specific symbols and their
interpretation. Thus there are papers on faceless anthropomorphic
symbols, the pentagram, spirals and lozenges, bulls horn symbols,
footprint and handprint symbols, cupmarks and triangles, and net
patterns and ruled rectangles. The volume is completed by two
essays on particular rock art sites in Portugal and Galicia.
The ultimate guide to classical composers and their music-for both the novice and the experienced listener
Music, according to Aaron Copland, can thrive only if there are "gifted listeners." But today's listeners must choose between classical and rock, opera and rap, and the choices can seem overwhelming at times. In The Essential Canon of Classical Music, David Dubal comes to the aid of the struggling listener and provides a cultural-literacy handbook for classical music. Dubal identifies the 240 composers whose works are most important to an understanding of classical music and offers a comprehensive, chronological guide to their lives and works. He has searched beyond the traditional canon to introduce readers to little-known works by some of the most revered names in classical music-Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert-as well as to the major works of lesser-known composers. In a spirited and opinionated voice, Dubal seeks to rid us of the notion of "masterpieces" and instead to foster a new generation of master listeners. The result is an uncommon collection of the wonders classical music has to offer.
