Greatest Adventure in the History of Basic Cable', 'Disco Didn't
Die. It Was Murdered!', 'There Might Be Blood', 'Talk Derby to Me',
'Gus Walks Into a Bank', 'Christmas Joy', 'Six Feet Under the Sea',
'Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing', 'Earth, Wind and... Wait for It',

Years before General Benedict Arnold betrayed the American cause, a
young officer and attorney named John Brown brought 13 charges of
misconduct against him and called for his arrest, Brown was
shuttled from one general to another, and finally to George
Washington, before powerful politicians decided in Arnold's favor
without hearing from Brown or any other witnesses. Historians have
continued to ignore the accusations, finding Brown's charges to be
false, and even absurd. In fact, some are unquestionably true, and
all are worthy of investigation. John Brown was an early hero of
the Revolution, a legislator, envoy, spy, and accomplished field
officer. His charges and his many proposed witnesses are a starting
point for a reevaluation of Arnold's conduct in the war-on his
storied march up Maine's Kennebec River to Canada, during the
winter siege of Quebec, and at the battles of Valcour Island and
Saratoga. What emerges from Brown's charges is a story of deceit
and misconduct, and of prominent leaders and historians turning a
blind eye in order to maintain exciting myths.

This comprehensive volume provides a survey of the many innovations
in the field of ultrashort pulse generation, and reviews the state
of the art in compact, modelocked laser systems, discussing both
their operational principles and potential applications. The theory
of short optical pulse generation by modelocking is covered in the
first chapter. Thereafter, modelocking techniques in different
types of lasers are discussed: solid state lasers; diode-pumped
lasers; fiber lasers; surface emitting semiconductor lasers;
external cavity semiconductor lasers; hybrid soliton pulse sources;
and monolithic colliding pulse modelocked diode lasers. Presenting
both theoretical and experimental aspects throughout, this book
will be invaluable to anyone interested in short pulse laser
systems, and particularly to researchers involved in high-speed
communications or the investigation of ultrafast phenomena.

The Journey of the French Coat: Adventures in the Wilds from Old
Fort Niagara to the Our House Tavern is an engaging and
illuminating regional historical fiction book directed toward youth
and young adults. Dr. Gretchen Duling's background and experience
in teaching Social Studies, as a Gifted Programming Specialist, to
youth and her writing and publication success in varying genres
provided the development of an interesting style of writing and
approach to history which is both engaging, exciting and easy
reading for youth and adults. Over a number of years she
extensively researched and gathered data which is interspersed into
the story of a gold velvet French coat's journey through several
historic time periods from 1759 to 1825. The geographical region
covered is from Fort Niagara in Western New York to the Our House
Tavern in the southern Ohio River town of Gallipolis, Ohio. Dr.
Duling knows these regions well because she lives near Fort Niagara
in Youngstown, New York, and was born, raised and educated in
Gallipolis, Ohio. Which was once called an exotic French frontier
colony. She integrates the history and story with actual events
involving Iroquois Indians, white English settlers, French settlers
escaping the French Revolution and the tour of General Marquis de
Lafayette as "Guest of the Nation" in 1825. The coat's journey
comes full circle by possibly ending where it began. An actual gold
velvet French coat on which this story is based does still exist.
Western New York's history has many connections to the history of
other regions. As one reader wrote: "The Journey of the French
Coat: Adventures in the Wilds from Old Fort Niagara to the Our
House Tavern, is a good example of the never ending trail of
history with one trail leading yet to another."
Synopsis: A Marginal Scribe collects eight studies written over a
period of two decades, all of which use social-scientific criticism
to interpret the Gospel of Matthew. It prefaces them, first, with a
new chapter on the struggle between historians and social
scientists since the Enlightenment and its parallel in New
Testament studies, which culminated in the emergence of
social-scientific criticism; and, second, with a new chapter on
recent social-scientific interpretation of the Gospel of Matthew.
The eight, more specialized studies cover a variety of themes and
use a variety of models but concentrate and are held together by
those that illumine social ranking and marginality. The book closes
with a chapter that ties together these studies. Endorsements:
