The present study was performed to investigate the scientific basis for the traditional uses of the crude methanolic extract and its partitionate of the leaves of the plant Lasia spinosa (Fam: Araceae). The preliminary phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and glycosides. Crude methanolic extract with other partitionates were subjected to bioactivity guided investigations such as anti-nociceptive (central and peripheral), anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antihelmintic, antidepressant, cytotoxicity, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiarrhoeal and thrombolytic activity. Analysis reveals Lasia spinosa can be used in different purpose.
The present study was performed to investigate the anti-fertility and abortive effects of the pulp constituents of Ananus comosus L.In case of the Anti-fertility activity, ethanol extract and ethyl acetate extract showed better anti-fertility effect on mice when given on alternative days. In case of Abortive activity, ethanol extract and ethyl acetate extract showed best abortive effect on mice when given on consecutive days. The preliminary phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids and steroids. The study showed that the plant can be used as contraceptive which is more effective and less toxic and used as traditional medicine.
