Thorough and authoritative, Regional and Urban Economics and
Economic Development: Theory and Methods provides students with a
sound approach to analyzing the economic progress of a region or
urban area. The textbook is divided into four sections for ease of
reference. The first section, Market Areas and Firm Location
Analysis introduces spatial economics and location theory, while
the next section, Regional Growth and Development analyzes regional
growth and development models and policy. Introducing the
foundations of urban economics, Urban Land Use and Urban Form
examines land rent, land use patterns, and the effects of attempts
to control land uses. The final section, Urban Problems and Policy,
investigates local public finance and introduces the policy
analysis involved in countering urban problems. Addressing these
topics from the perspectives of how they affect the population at
large and how they become established within public policy,
Regional and Urban Economics and Economic Development: Theory and
Methods provides students with an essential foundation not only to
understand but also to contemplate the dynamics of varying economic
factors as they relate to an area's growth.
Dyma gyfrol sy’n croniclo bywyd a gwaith Griffith Davies
(1788–1855), o’i blentyndod tlawd yn ardal chwareli Arfon i’w
waith fel sefydlydd ysgolion mathemateg yn Llundain cyn gosod
sylfaen i’r proffesiwn actiwari. Tri mis yn unig o addysg
ffurfiol a dderbyniodd Davies, a dyna pryd y sylweddolwyd fod
ganddo allu rhyfeddol mewn mathemateg. Mentrodd i Lundain, ac ar
ôl blynyddoedd wedi ymroi i hunan ddysgu cyhoeddodd lyfrau mewn
mathemateg, ac yn y pen draw fe’i penodwyd yn brif actiwari i
gwmni yswiriant Guardian yn y ddinas. Wrth i’w yrfa ddatblygu,
daeth yn Gymrawd o’r Gymdeithas Frenhinol a derbyniodd glod ac
anrhydeddau am ei waith. Bu’n weithgar ym mywyd Cymraeg Llundain
gan sefydlu cyfres o ddarlithoedd gwyddonol yn ei famiaith, ac
ymgyrchodd yn llwyddiannus dros hawliau tyddynwyr bro ei febyd a
thros addysg i’w gyd-wladwyr. Mae hanes bywyd Griffith Davies yn
stori sy’n ysbrydoli.
The science of applied nutrition and the provision of dietary
recommendation is an important topic internationally. There is a
substantial number of issues in this area where findings supporting
or contesting the deleterious or beneficial effects of certain
dietary components continue to cause controversy. This book focuses
on these major issues and provides coverage of the scientific
evidence available, from which dietary recommendations can be made.
Issues covered by chapters in the book include diseases with a
dietary aetiology, the use of additives and preservatives and the
role of the food manufacturer in nutrition. There are separate
chapters on the role in the diet of cholesterol, fat, sugar, salt
and fibre and chapters devoted to dietary recommendations for the
young, the middle aged and the elderly. Because of the importance
of the topics covered and the standing of the authors, this book
should be read by nutritionists, food scientists and
gastroenterologists as well as those responsible for making
recommendations concerning dietary components, whether to
individuals or large groups, from a medical or industrial
standpoint.
The curricular approach aligns the mission, goals, outcomes, and
practices of a student affairs division, unit, or other unit that
works to educate students beyond the classroom with those of the
institution, and organizes intentional and developmentally
sequenced strategies to facilitate student learning. In this book,
the authors explain how to implement a curricular approach for
educating students beyond the classroom. The book is based on more
than a decade of implementing curricular approaches on multiple
campuses, contributing to the scholarship on the curricular
approach, and helping many campuses design, implement, and assess
their student learning efforts. The curricular approach is rooted
in scholarship and the connections between what we know about
learning, assessment, pedagogy, and student success. For many who
have been socialized in a more traditional programming approach, it
may feel revolutionary. Yet, it is also obvious because it is
straightforward and simple.
