John Dryden (1631-1700) was an influential English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright who dominated the literary life of Restoration England to such a point that the period came to be known in literary circles as the Age of Dryden. He established the heroic couplet as a standard form of English poetry by writing successful satires, religious pieces, fables, epigrams, compliments, prologues, and plays with it, and was made Poet Laureate in 1668.

From the pre-independence days to the conclusion of the recent Persian Gulf War, India has maintained a strong pro-Arab policy. This book traces the economic, political, and psychological factors that have influenced India's pro-Arab policy from the 1920s to today, and how these factors influence the implementation of present policy with the Arab world. It was on the basis of her ethnography of the boat-people in Hong Kong that Barbara Ward developed her interpretations of 'conscious models' in the Chinese context.
