This book shares the results of a symposium held to honor the work
of Walter Brueggemann and Charles Cousar at Columbia Theological
Seminary on the occasion of their retirement. The honorees are of
such stature that the authors gathered to honor them share a
similar status within the biblical studies guild. Each author and
each chapter of the book simultaneously engages the Bible, the
church and the world. This 3-part engagement was fundamental to the
careers of the honorees. The contributors emulate and even expand
on their work. The book also includes responses by Walter
Brueggemann and Charles Cousar to the challenges to traditional
biblical interpretation represented here.
