Die "Handbibliothek fUr Bauingenieure," der dieser Band "Der kultur technische Wasserbau" angehorl, solI nach der Absicht des Herausgebers die von dem Bauingenieur zu bearbeitenden Fachgebiete in knapper, streng wissenschaftlicher Form derart behandeln, daB sie dem in der Praxis stehenden Fachmann und alteren Studierenden als Hilfs- und Nachschlagewerk dienen kann. Die Erwagung, daB in der PreuBischen Meliorationsverwaltung mehr Meliorationstechniker mit einer Ausbildung auf niederen Fachschulen be schaftigt werden als Bauingenieure mit voller Ausbildung auf einer technischen Hochschule, lieB es ratsam erscheinen, das Buch, ohne von den obigen Grund satzen abzuweichen, so zu verfassen, daB es auch von jenen mit Vorleil be nutzt werden kann. Die Einteilung und Behandlung des StofIes ist aus meinen Vorlesungen an der landwirtschaftlichen Hochschule zu Berlin uber Kulturlechnik und die fachverwandten Gebiete entstanden, wie sie fur Geodaten gehalten werden. Dazu boten meine in nahezu 30 jahriger Tatigkeit in der Meliorationsbauver waltung gesammelten Erfahrungen die Grundlage. Als Lucke in dem Inhalte empfinde ich das Fehlen eines Abschnittes uber Bauwerke bei Landes meliorationen, und zwar UID so mehr, als uber derartige Bauwerke uberhaupt nur sehr 8parliche VerofIentlichungen erschienen und erscheinen. Eine regere Tatigkeit in der Beziehung wurde ohne Frage wertvolle Erfahrungen zum Allgemeingut machen und einer Zeitvergeudung beim Entwerfen wirksam begegnen. Hier muBte dies Kapitel ausfallen, weil es einen breiteren Raum erfordert, als die Handbibliothek gestattet. Her troubled past never ceases to haunt her, and the enormous demands of a life in the limelight causes her to have a somewhat cynical outlook on life, narrated through her own interesting brand of quirky humor, which even sprouts some self-destructing tendencies. But it is also the story of her friends who support her throughout and a love that she feels she might not be deserving of.
