Rettungs- und Notfallmedizin allein kannen keinesfalls katastrophenmedizinische Probleme lasen. Aus medizinischer Sicht sind Art, Zeitpunkt und AusmaB einer Katastrophe unbekannte GraBen. Es kann sich z. B. urn ein Eisenbahnungluck, eine Uberschwemmungskatastrophe, ein Erdbeben oder auch urn einen nuklearen Unfall handeln.
