In this timely and eye-opening book, noted political analyst and media commentator Dr. Earl Ofari Hutchinson traces the root cause of the White House's failure to protect the rights of African Americans. Drawing extensively from public and private presidential papers, private correspondence, personal interviews, and national archive documents, Hutchinson gives a rich historical account of the racial philosophy, policies, and practices of successive presidents from Warren G. Harding to Bill Clinton. Franklin D. Roosevelt is one example. The popular view is that Roosevelt was a Mend to blacks because of his enactment of New Deal programs. But he was also a prisoner of the biased racial thinking of his times. He refused to actively support antilynching legislation and repeatedly curried political favor with racist southern Democrats. Lyndon B. Johnson is yet another example. He is known as a champion of civil rights, but Hutchinson details two crucial moments when Johnson shrank from using the full force of executive power to push Congress to enact new and tougher federal criminal civil rights statutes to punish racist violence. In this book, Hutchinson reveals that no American president has ever signed into law a federal antilynching bill despite a 50-year campaign by the NAACP for presidential and congressional action. He documents how Nixon, Reagan, and Bush rolled back civil rights and affirmative action, failed to fully enforce equal protection provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment against police abuse and racial violence, encouraged conservative legal obstructionism, and fueled the rise of a repressive domestic security state. These actions in turn have reinforced institutionalized racism and continued the historical pattern of devaluing black lives in law and public policy. Finally, Hutchinson warns that the century-old failure by the White House to enforce federal law to protect black lives still has dangerous consequences for American society.

In The Assassination of the Black Male Image, noted political analyst and media critic Dr. Earl Ofari Hutchinson offers a searing, controversial indictment of our society's attitudes toward black men. The black male image, he argues, has been battered, maligned, and assaulted by academics, the press, and Hollywood, as well as by some black rappers, comedians, feminists, filmmakers, and novelists--many of whom he accuses of reinforcing, and profiting from, ethnic and sexual stereotypes. Offering both a wide historical perspective and acute insights into such racially charged events as the O. J. Simpson trial, the Clarence Thomas hearings, and the Million Man March, Hutchinson brilliantly counters the image of the black male as a figure entrenched in crime, drugs, and violence. At the same time, he issues a deeply moving call to rethink the way we view African American men.

Ground Breaking New Book by Political Analyst and Noted Author Earl Ofari Hutchinson Examines the Nation's Hot Button Political Issues in Spanish The First Book by an African-American Author Written Completely in Spanish for Spanish Language Readers Political analyst and noted author Earl Ofari Hutchinson's landmark new book Political Los Pensamientos de las Politicas Controversiales (thoughts on controversial political issues) is a wide ranging, hard hitting book that tackles the hot button political issues that have torn the nation. The topics include abortion, relations with Cuba, the GOP and President Obama, the health care battles, the myths about Nelson Mandela, the turmoil in the Catholic Church, and the fight over Gay Marriage. "The book sends many messages about language and politics," says Hutchinson, "But most importantly my aim is to enrich the social and political literary life of the nation through the adept use of Spanish by an American writer." He escrito diez libros en ingles de temas diversos. Todos han sido escritos en ingles. Principalmente, han sido acerca de temas politicos, sociales, y especialmente sobre racismo. The book is groundbreaking in one more sense. It is the first work by an African-American writer on controversial political and social issues written by the author and published purely in Spanish. The author wanted this book to be a bridge between Spanish speaking readers concerned about the compelling political issues in the United States and beyond and English language American authors. "The issues examined in the book were chosen both to deal with some of the most controversial issues in recent days but also to appeal to a wide range of readers both English and Spanish speaking, "says Hutchinson," who regularly debate, discuss, and engage in action on the range of issues and causes that Los Pensamientos addresses.
