Das Verzeichnis erfasst samtliche Mitglieder der Sachsischen
Akademie der Wissenschaften seit ihrer Grundung bis heute, die fast
ausnahmslos mit einem Portrat abgebildet werden. Vorangestellt ist
eine Ubersicht aller Amtstrager - Prasidenten und Vizeprasidenten,
Sekretare und stellvertretende Sekretare, Prasidiumsmitglieder,
Nobelpreistrager und Mitglieder in der Jablonowskischen
Gesellschaft. Die Grundung am 1. Juli 1846, vor 160 Jahren, als
Koniglich Sachsische Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften ging
unmittelbar auf die Initiative eines Vereins von 13 Leipziger
Professoren zuruck und stand in der Tradition jener Ideen, die
bereits um 1700 von Leibniz und Tschirnhaus dem damaligen
Kurfursten Friedrich August vorgelegt worden waren. Seit der
Konstituierung des Freistaates Sachsen im Jahr 1919 tragt die
Akademie ihren heutigen Namen."
