This story is a Cinderella story about a girl who is too beautiful for her own good. One who has had some saving graces, 'feelings, ' 'hunches, ' and 'intuitions.' She finds it hard to make friends. This book of historic fiction depicts a love story between Peter Lauck and Amelia Heiskell, ancestors of Collins. It covers life in Winchester, Virginia, from the mid-1700s until the end of the American Revolution. It displays quaint Virginia customs, beliefs, medical treatments, hex and witchcraft practices, as well as housekeeping and clothing traditions. Unique, long-forgotten mores yield fascinating details of life in the colonies before and during the American Revolution. This tale recounts early Virginia history and the Battle of Quebec in 1775 (Benedict Arnold's ill-fated attempt to take Quebec as the 14th American colony) where Peter Lauck served under the command of Captain Daniel Morgan. Morgan trained and took 96 riflemen from Winchester into the battle at Quebec. Peter, his brother, Simon, and four close friends from Winchester formed the historic "Dutch Mess." The book also traces some events in the military role of George Washington's second cousin, William Washington. The book describes the origin of Peter Lauck's Red Lion Inn (where George Washington stopped) and Lauck's mansion, Edgehill, in Winchester. Edna also wrote "Dog Mysteries" in 2006, "Who Killed Who-the Little Dog Knew " in 2007. She wrote a novel, "The Woman Was a Devil" in 2008.

These two exciting dog mysteries involve a sled dog in one and a poodle in the other. "The Scent of a Stranger" is the story of two brothers, both doctors. One man was handsome, charming, the love of his mother and half the town but a louse. The other brother was short, stout, decent, kind, but had never been loved by anyone, including his mother. He carried a secret in his heart that made him buy a one-way ticket to Alaska. There he finds his first true love and companion, a wounded sled dog. After a murder, the wrong man is accused but there was a witness to the murder. In the end, his faithful dog helps him. "Murder in the Garden" involves an Irish family and a young heroine who was molested as a child. She learns to breed poodles for dog shows, attempts to avenge her molestation, and gets caught up in the I.R.A. and world of terrorism. Dogs, love affairs, the old South, antiques, horse-racing and international intrigue figure strongly in this mystery. "This lady knows how to spin a tale," said Bob Cheney, author of "Interrupted Lives" and "Tragedy in Black and White."
"The Woman Was a Devil" is a page-turner about a forty-year old virgin who passed her time as an antique collector until she discovered a mysterious Gauguin painting. This brought her into contact with a fraudulent curator who turned out to be a devilish woman. Suddenly three men become her love life-a lawyer, famous country western singer, and a handsome cad with an inheritance. Her steady companion is her faithful dog, a Yorkshire terrier. Women friends turn on her, but two old friends who were early school mates come to her aid. One lovable curator helps her use her knowledge of antiques to find her way out of a great quandary. The world of antiques revealing American history, auctions, charlatans and odd characters make this fascinating story even more intriguing. The mystery begins in a small Pennsylvania town just after World War II but reaches out to include Washington, D.C., the National Gallery, the Smithsonian, the Willard Hotel, Georgetown, and Las Vegas, as well as Dublin, Ireland.
"Who Killed Who-The Little Dog Knew " is a delightful dog mystery about Jack Russell terriers and five men with an invention that could help mankind. An inventor has created a device that collapses fires, stops hurricanes from developing, and reduces explosions from bombs. The invention leads to rivalries, marital problems, kidnappings, and deaths. The wives and girlfriends of these men have strong personalities that color the mystery and add wit. Close relationships between the men, women, their children, and dogs play a prominent part as the mystery unfolds. A Greek tycoon, a defrocked priest, an exotic half-caste, a doctor, an Irishman, a cop, businessmen, beautiful and intelligent women and some oddballs round out the cast of characters. Action, murder, international intrigue, love, and man's best friend all contribute to the puzzle to be unraveled. These are fascinating and realistic people dealing with sudden wealth and dangerous jealousies due to a remarkable invention. We follow them through an exciting and intricate series of events over a four-year period as they sort out their relationships with good and bad people. With unexpected twists and turns, they finally solve the mysteries with the help of the cook's dog.
