This book will not offer another definition of composition or
writing. It is the position of this study that writing is writing.
This book, rather, seeks to offer a phenomenological perspective on
how the teaching of composition should be approached by presenting
phenomenological rhetoric as a paradigm that allows for the
inclusion of many, seemingly, contradictory approaches to writing.
Through the blending of subjective and objective modes of inquiry
and composition, student writers will be better able to express
themselves agentially in a discourse community that appears to
demand only conformity. The result will be student writers who are
better prepared to present their ideas in the context of their
world.
