This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing, EUC 2007, held in Taipei, Taiwan, in December 2007. The 65 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 217 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on power aware computing, reconfigurable embedded systems, wireless networks, real-time/embedded operating systems, embedded system architectures, scheduling and resource management, mobile computing, system security, network protocols, fault tolerance, human-computer interface and data management, hw/sw co-design and design automations, service-aware computing, sensor networks, ad hoc and sensor networks, ubiquitous computing, and embedded software designs.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing, EUC 2006, held in Seoul, Korea in August 2006. The 113 revised full papers presented together with 3 keynote articles were carefully reviewed and selected from over 500 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on power aware computing, security and fault tolerance, agent and distributed computing, wireless communications, real-time systems, embedded software optimization, embedded systems, multimedia and data management, mobile computing, embedded system design automation, embedded architectures, network protocols, middleware and P2P.
Embedded systems are driving an information revolution with their pervasion in our everyday lives. With more and more different types of FUs available, same type of operations can be processed by heterogeneous FUs with different costs, where the cost may relate to power, reliability, etc. Due to conditional operations, some tasks may not have fixed execution time. Therefore, how to assign a proper FU type to each operation of a system and generate a schedule that minimize the total costs while satisfying timing constraints with guaranteed confidence probabilities becomes a critical issue. This book, 1) proposed several efficient algorithms to solve the problem; 2) combined Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) and soft real-time to solve the Voltage Assignment with Probability (VAP) Problem. 3) applied our efficient algorithms to dynamic adjust the working mode of sensors to save energy for sensor networks; 4) designed rotation scheduling algorithms for real-time applications that produce schedules consuming minimal energy; 5) combined data mining and prefetching to reduce energy consumptions; 6) improved performance and energy consumption for processors with multi-bank memory.
