The thrilling story of the conservationist who pioneered the use of dogs in combating poachers in South Africa’s game reserves.
One of Conraad’s first brushes with the reality of life at the frontline of conservation was when he shot the leader of a poaching gang in Windy Ridge game reserve in his teens. Much of Con’s work involving dogs is a continuous struggle against industrial-scale bushmeat poachers, an even greater threat to wildlife than rhino horn poachers as the overburdened courts seem interested only in endangered species. He also works to catch poachers of critically endangered pangolins, the most trafficked animal in the world. Con decided to use his almost telepathic rapport with dogs to tackle the poaching crisis sweeping South Africa.
His first anti-poaching dog, a Weimaraner named Zingela, became an inseparable companion. Zingela saved Conraad’s life on numerous occasions – once when Conraad was about to be assassinated by two fellow rangers hired by poachers.
Con’s story is an epic of modern-day African wildlife conservation, spiced with adventure, courage and romance.
For those people who: have a keen imagination; are labelled too shy or too sensitive; who perform poorly when being observed even though they are usually competent; have vivid dreams; for whom time alone each day is essential;
and find they are quickly overwhelmed by noise and confusion, crowded parties, hectic office life...
this is the book to help them understand themselves and how best to cope in various situations.
Highly sensitive people are often very bright and creative but many suffer from low self esteem. They are not ‘neurotics’ as they have been labelled for so long. However, high sensitivity can lead them to cease to engage with the outside world.
The book offers solutions for a happy and fulfilling life. Particularly in the way an HSP perceives his or herself: the book helps to ‘reframe’ past events, such as a difficult childhood, or how they see themselves – ie. shy.
Particularly strong material for those raising a sensitive child.

A paradigm-shifting book looking at the pervasive influence of
silence and how we can begin to dismantle it in order to find our
voices at home and at work Having a seat at the table doesnât
mean that your voice is actually welcome. Knowing something is
wrong doesn't mean it's easy to speak up. In fact, there are
incentives for many of us to stay silent. Why speak up if you know
that it wonât be received well, and in fact, often makes things
worse? In Unlearning Silence, Hering explores how weâve learned
to be silent, how weâve benefited from silence, how weâve
silenced other peopleâand how we might choose another way. She
teaches how to recognize and unlearn unconscious patterns so we can
make more intentional choices about how we want to show up in at
home and at work. Only by unlearning silence can we more fully
unleash talent, speak our minds, and be more complete versions of
ourselves⌠and help other people do the same. With compassion,
clarity, and understanding, Hering guides readers through real-life
examples and offers a concrete road map for doing this vital and
challenging work.

This book is a truthful, honest and fascinating account of being
quarantined on the cruise ship Diamond Princess. It was the first
cruise ship to be hit by Covid-19. This was the first major event
of the coronavirus outbreak. The story draws heavily on a detailed
diary kept by the author and includes the lead up to the holiday of
a lifetime. It shares what it felt like being confined for 19 days
in a small cabin room with no balcony or window, and the challenges
that followed. After being repatriated from Japan to the Wirral in
Liverpool, and enduring another quarantine, the author finally
makes it back home.

borders and territory to help the reader engage with a diversity of
themes and topics, united under broader concepts which are at the
heart of understanding what is beyond the Nation State? Two further
chapters on trade and data to immerse the reader further into areas
of law beyond the State which are important in contemporary times?
Highlighted boxes to help identify key information, whilst further
reflection points and suggested further reading at the end of each
chapter offer context to the topics discussed. With its broad
theoretical reach, this textbook will be an invaluable teaching and
learning tool for students of law, international relations,
politics, political science, governance, and transnational law and
governance.
This timely book investigates the EU's multi-faceted development as
a global actor, unpacking its legal mission to be a 'good' actor as
well as exploring the complexities of fulfilling this objective. It
elicits critical reflections on the question of 'goodness' in EU
external relations from descriptive, analytical and normative
perspectives, and examines which metrics of actorness are useful in
tackling this subject. Featuring contributions from more than 20
leading EU scholars and emerging voices, the book develops four
themes through which it advances a research agenda for the study of
the EU as a good global actor. The book begins by unpacking the
complexities of the EU as a global trade actor, before discussing
'good' trade governance and a deeper trade agenda, the issue of
data governance in digital trade and in other regulatory
frameworks, and finally the institutional dimension of EU
actorness. Understanding the EU as a Good Global Actor will be a
crucial read for scholars and students in EU law and politics,
particularly those with an interest in EU governance, trade and
external relations. It will also prove useful for policy makers
both within and outside the EU.
