Das vorliegende Werk uber Indogermanische Mythen ist eine von Elard Hugo Meyers wichtigsten Schriften, mit der er einen bedeutenden Beitrag zur damals noch im Aufbau begriffenen Mythologieforschung leistet. In diesem Band von 1883 beschaftigt er sich mit der indischen und griechischen Sagenwelt und bezieht sich auf den Mythos der indischen Ghandarven und ihres griechischen Pendants, der Kentauren. Meyer beschreibt die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede dieser Sagen und zeigt die enge Verwandtschaft der indogermanischen Mythen und Religionen auf. Infolgedessen kommt Meyer zu dem Schluss, dass sich die indogermanischen Religionen erst uber den Seelen- und Geisterglauben zum Gotterglauben entwickelt haben.
