Enabling Technologies for Computational Science - Frameworks, Middleware and Environments (Hardcover, 2000 ed.): Elias N.... Enabling Technologies for Computational Science - Frameworks, Middleware and Environments (Hardcover, 2000 ed.)
Elias N. Houstis, John R Rice, Efstratios Gallopoulos, Randall Bramley
R2,880 Discovery Miles 28 800 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Enabling Technologies for Computational Science assesses future application computing needs, identifies research directions in problem-solving environments (PSEs), addresses multi-disciplinary environments operating on the Web, proposes methodologies and software architectures for building adaptive and human-centered PSEs, and describes the role of symbolic computing in scientific and engineering PSEs. The book also includes an extensive bibliography of over 400 references. Enabling Technologies for Computational Science illustrates the extremely broad and interdisciplinary nature of the creation and application of PSEs. Authors represent academia, government laboratories and industry, and come from eight distinct disciplines (chemical engineering, computer science, ecology, electrical engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, psychology and wood sciences). This breadth and diversity extends into the computer science aspects of PSEs. These papers deal with topics such as artificial intelligence, computer-human interaction, control, data mining, graphics, language design and implementation, networking, numerical analysis, performance evaluation, and symbolic computing. Enabling Technologies for Computational Science provides an assessment of the state of the art and a road map to the future in the area of problem-solving environments for scientific computing. This book is suitable as a reference for scientists from a variety of disciplines interested in using PSEs for their research.

This volume contains a subset of the papers presented at the 10th Panhellenic Conference in Informatics (PCI 2005), which took place at the City of Volos, Greece, during November 11-13, 2005. After an international call for papers, 252 full papers were submitted. The number of the submitted papers constitutes a record number for the conf- ence and reveals its growing dynamics. The authors represented universities and institutes from the following countries: Algeria, Bulgaria, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, The Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Poland, Romania, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, UK, and USA. Of the submitted papers, 81 were accepted for inclusion in this volume, giving an acceptance ratio of appr- imately 32. 2%. The papers are classi?ed into 17 thematic sections as follows: - data bases and data mining - algorithms and theoretical foundations - cultural and museum information systems - Internet-scale software/information systems - wearable and mobile computing - computer graphics, virtual reality and visualization - AI, machine learning and knowledge bases - languages, text and speech processing - bioinformatics - software engineering - educational technologies - e-business - computer and sensor hardware and architecture - computer security - image and video processing - signal processing and telecommunications - computer and sensor networks We would like to thank all the ProgramCommittee members and the additional reviewers for devoting time, e?ort and expertise so bounteously.

The 1st International Conference on Supercomputing took place in Athens, Greece, June 8-12, 1987. The purpose of this conference was to bring together researchers from universities, industrial laboratories, and other research institutions with common interests in architectures and hardware technology, software, and applications for supercomputers. Authors from 12 countries submitted 107 papers, from which 52 were accepted and presented at the conference. In addition, 15 distinguished researchers presented invited papers. The papers from these presentations make up the current proceedings volume. Based on the quality of the papers presented and the response and excitement of the participants, the Program Committee has decided to hold annual meetings on the subject of supercomputing.
