Addressing the problem of how weight is regulated, how obesity is acquired, and how it is cured, Weight Regulation and Curing Acquired Obesity provides the mathematical basis of control system theory as applied to weight regulation. Unlike the majority of weight control literature which focuses on biochemistry, this innovative title discusses the biomechanical aspects of a dual closed loop system which mechanically senses meal volume and accumulated intraabdominal fat, where accurate sensation depends on the mechanical strength of the anterior abdominal wall. Presents a unified theory of weight regulation, explains the pathology of acquired obesity, and offers therapy directed to correct the underlying pathophysiology. Discusses surgical therapy directed to re-establish the strength of the anterior abdominal wall, reverse the pathology, and cure acquired obesity. Contains a chapter on future animal and human studies to support the neuromechanical hypothesis.
Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) is a subtropical evergreen fruit tree indigenous to China. Records show it has been cultivated in China for over 2000 years. From this beginning, loquat has spread to more than 30 countries around the world. Grown in various regions of Asia, the Mediterranean and across the Americas, loquats suit both temperate and subtropical areas, sharing the same environmental conditions as citrus. Loquat is an increasingly commercial crop in some Asian and European countries with a good amount of international trade. Recent research has focused on improving crop yields and quality. Over 100 different varieties have been developed to meet both growers' and consumers' demands. These developments have contributed to a better understanding of the crop environment, plant growth and physiology of tree and fruit development with implications for both breeding and cultivation. This book is to be the first to provide a comprehensive coverage of the history, physiology, culture and marketing of loquat throughout the world.
With this work, Gonzalez Miralles illustrates how people who grow up in a given culture unconsciously feel the need to follow a predetermined role and aims to question how societal standards, not only in Japan, but elsewhere, constrain human behaviour and the development of identity. Questions that affect us all, especially considering the obsession with self-projection in today's society.
This is a combined book with animal rhymes I already published as separate entities. Instead of having Spanish rhymes and English rhymes with the same illustration in two separate books, I consolidated the texts. Poems for animals rarely considered in poetry, i.e: the bat, the rhinoceros, the frog, the moth, the mosquito..etc. Funny rhymes and word play...
