Serengeti safari is the second book in the popular Animal adventures in Africa series following on the release of the highly acclaimed An elephant’s tail in 2008. With the global focus on the environment and ‘going green’, this series is extremely popular with parents, educators and children alike. It is printed on 100% recycled paper and is aimed at children between 8 and 11 years old. The story follows the same five little animal friends who set out on another big adventure to see the migration of the Serengeti.
Lee O the lion cub and Bongo the baboon sneak up to the lodge, where the naughty baboon steals some berries from the kitchen. When Lee O has to make a sudden escape, he finds himself face to face with a boy, a ‘Wild child’ who incredibly, seems able to talk to him! Later, Lee O sets out with his friends to the other side of the game reserve, looking for adventure. But on their way back Hevi disappears, and when Lee O, Bongo, Manji and Vile go looking for him, to their horror they find him trapped in a wire poacher’s snare. Lee O turns to the elephants for help and after chasing away three hungry lionesses, the elephant matriarch sends Lee O to call the humans, because she is afraid for Hevi’s life. Lee O and Bongo run to the animal boma where they find Wild child and discover that the boy really can understand them! With the help of the humans the poacher’s snare is cut off Hevi’s foot, and the little hippo is saved and happily reunited with his family again!
On a bright, beautiful day in Africa, Lee O the young lion cub, Bongo the baboon, Hevi the hippoo calf, Vile the vulture and Manji the meercat set out to rescue a child who has wandered away from the lodge and been taken by hyenas! After following Lee O’s big plan, where he learns to listen too his heart, they manage to rescue the boy form the hyena cave, but on the way to the lodge, get trapped in an out-of-control veld fire! They risk the fire to get the boy to his mother, and just as it seems as if they will make it, a crashing sound erupts through the smoking bushes and a baby elephant charges straight at them! As Lee O faces the elephant, Vile tells him that the little elephants tail has been burned in the fire. They have no idea how to get the elephant to the humans for help. An elephant’s tail offers an exciting way for children to become aware of wildlife conservation. It is printed on 100% recycled paper and is the first book in the Animal adventures in Africa series, aimed at children between 8 and 11 years old.
