Excavating English is a curriculum designed for ages 12 and up. It
explores the multicultural roots of the English language from 4000
BC to present day. The text provides over 150 pages of information,
trivia, word games, activities and Internet links (including a
playlist of supplemental videos). The first chapters give an
introduction to linguistics, phonetics and phonology. The text then
traces English from the shores of the Black Sea
(Proto-Indo-European) through the history of the Germanic peoples,
the Danes, the Anglo-Saxons, the Normans, and the great wordsmiths
of the Renaissance. The history continues as English crosses the
ocean to America, then is influenced by immigrants from all over
the world. The text is not only informative, but is lively and
interesting, and the activities included after each chapter make
the curriculum very interactive.
A complete botany curriculum for ages 8-13 (grades 4-8 in the USA).
Includes a 100-page student text plus a 150-page teacher's section.
The student text is written in a lively, engaging style, often with
a touch of whimsical humor, yet delves deeply into the science of
how plants work. Each chapter ends with some follow-up activities
such as word puzzles, quiz questions, and links to videos that
illustration the concepts learned in the text. The teacher's
section includes patterns and instructions for board games, group
games, active games, art and craft activities, experiments, and
even two songs. Ideal for homeschool or gifted education, but also
a great resource for any classroom.
"Mapping the World with Art" is a blend of history, geography, and
art for ages 10 and up. This curriculum is actually three books in
one. The first section is a history text with 30 2-page history
lessons that tell the story of cartography from ancient Mesopotamia
up through the discovery of Antarctica in the late 1800s. The
second section of the book provides step-by-step drawing lessons
for each of the history lessons. After you learn some history, you
draw the primary place you read about. The last section provides
extra activities that a parent or teacher may want to use with
their student(s). These activities include review worksheets, group
games, historical crafts, art projects, edible crafts, and links to
online videos. The final project is drawing a map of the world from
memory.
