Anna Hickey-moody, Christine Horn, Marissa Willcox, Eloise Florence
R2,003 Discovery Miles 20 030 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This book offers a practical, methodological guide to conducting arts-based research with children by drawing on five years of the authors' experience carrying out arts-based research with children in Australia and the UK. Based on the Australian Research Council-funded Interfaith Childhoods project, the authors describe methods of engaging communities and making data with children that foreground children's experiences and worldviews through making, being with, and viewing art. Framing these methods of doing, seeing, being, and believing through art as modes of understanding children's strategies for negotiating personal identities and values, this book explores the value of arts-based research as a means of obtaining complex information about children's life worlds that can be difficult to express verbally.

Childhood, Citizenship, and the Anthropocene - Posthuman Publics and Civics (Hardcover): Anna Hickey-moody, Linda Knight,... Childhood, Citizenship, and the Anthropocene - Posthuman Publics and Civics (Hardcover)

The planet is dying. Our earth's climate has reached a point where it can no longer regulate itself. Fires, floods, and natural disasters are sweeping countries across the world. What does it mean to be a child citizen in the Anthropocene? Can we teach children a posthuman civics that can care for the more-than-human world? Extending on the concepts of 'little publics' and 'posthuman citizenships', this book progresses these notions with a view to modelling, and better understanding, posthuman publics and civics. Using experimental methodologies, the authors develop original, robust ways of understanding children's subcultural civic practices founded on care for the more than human.

Traces of Aerial Bombing in Berlin - Entangled Remembering (Hardcover): Eloise Florence Traces of Aerial Bombing in Berlin - Entangled Remembering (Hardcover)
Eloise Florence
R2,851 Discovery Miles 28 510 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

As nations continue to grapple with their legacies, it is clear that the things which make up our streets form a core part of our historical, political and cultural identity. Here, Eloise Florence turns to Berlin and the deeply entrenched narratives of World War II to explore the complicated relationship between violence, place and memory in the German and Anglo-American consciousness. Centered upon Teufelsberg – a hill in Berlin born from the rubble caused by Allied bombing – and other sites of violence across Germany's capital, this interdisciplinary study unpicks the use and abuse of area bombing and its cultural memory. Grounded in theories of new materialism and post-humanism, and drawing on extensive empirical and auto-ethnographic data, the issues addressed include: moving through urban landscapes as an embodied means of memorializing war and trauma; destruction as a means to advance right-wing ideological arguments such as Bombenholocaust; and curation as an entry point for tourists to reconsider the impact of aerial raids. This innovative volume shines an important light on both the dark legacy of the aerial bombing of Berlin and the ways in which we record and read violent histories more generally. As such, Traces of Aerial Bombing in Berlin will be an invaluable resource for all scholars of World War II, memory culture and public history.
