Rare Earths-Transition Metals-Boron Compounds - Basic Properties to Technical Applications (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2023): Emil Burzo Rare Earths-Transition Metals-Boron Compounds - Basic Properties to Technical Applications (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2023)
Emil Burzo
R4,667 Discovery Miles 46 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents advances in the field of rare-earth (R) – transition metal (M) – boron compounds with extensive references. Since titanium and scandium do not form compounds with rare-earths, the Sc/Ti-M-B series are additionally presented. In each chapter the crystal structures, the complex physical properties as determined from neutron diffraction, magnetic measurements, resonance studies, transport properties and band structure calculations are critical analyzed. The models used in describing the experimental evidence are also presented. Tables with the main properties of the R-M-B compounds are given and representative data are illustrated in figures. In this way, the book provides state-of-the art knowledge and a valuable analysis of up-to-date results in the field. The technical applications, as permanent magnets, thermoelectric and magnetocaloric devices, hydrogen storage are also highlighted along with the authors insights into future directions in the field. The book is of interest for scientists involved in the development of the field as well as those working in the technical uses of rare-earth compounds.

Subvolume 27I compiles the magnetic properties of silicates and phosphates; the present subvolume 27I5 deals with phyllosilicates. Subvolume 27I5 is presented in two parts: part 27I5a discusses gillespites, apophyllites, natrolites, micas, smectites and related silicates. The book discusses crystal structure and gives atomic positions. Beyond magnetic properties, the book reviews results of neutron diffraction studies, nuclear gamma resonance, nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, transport properties, dielectric and optical data.

The Landolt-Boernstein Volume 27 deals with the magnetic properties of non-metallic inorganic compounds based on transition elements, such as there are pnictides, chalcogenides, oxides, halides, borates, and finally phosphates and silicates, the latter presented in this subvolume I. A preliminary survey of the contents of all subvolumes that have already appeared or have been planned to appear is printed on the inside of the front cover. The silicates are very complex systems, intensively studied in literature. They cover large classes of minerals as well as synthetic samples. In analyzing their magnetic and magnetically related properties we essentially followed the classification given by the Mineral Reference Manual (E. H. Nickel, N. C. Nickols, Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1991). Individual chapters are dedicated to orthosilicates, sorosilicates, cyclosilicates, inosilicate, phyllosilicates and tectosilicates. Due to the huge amount of data these chapters had to be spread over several subvolumes I1, I2, etc. . - In each chapter the different groups of minerals and synthetic silicates were distinctly analyzed in various sections. For each group, additional silicate minerals, more recently reported, as well as synthetic samples having related compositions and/or crystal structures were also considered. The silicates included in each section were firstly tabulated, mentioning their compositions. The solid solutions between the end member compounds were also described. The space groups and lattice parameters for most silicates were tabulated. Crystal structures of representative silicates were discussed in more detail and the atomic positions were given.
