Volume XXXI contains the editio princeps of the first group of Aramaic texts (4Q529-549) from Cave 4 which were originally assigned to Père Jean Starcky. They are primarily parabiblical and pseudepigraphical compositions reflecting the interest in biblical themes characteristic of Second Temple Judaism. The commentary is in French.

This volume contains a collection of Jewish works composed during the intertestamental period linked to biblical texts through characters, themes, or genre. Some of these were known previously as part of the Pseudepigrapha, while others were not previously known. They should all enhance our understanding of the phenomenon of pseudepigraphy (writing in the name of a famous biblical or religious character) and of biblical interpretation during the Second Temple period.

This volume (in French) contains the editio princeps of the second part (4Q550-583) of the Aramaic texts from Cave 4 at Qumran which were originally assigned to Pere Jean Starcky (4Q521-578). The first part of the Aramaic texts were published in volume XXXI of the Discoveries in the JudaeanDesert series, while the Hebrew texts were published in volume XXV.
These Aramaic and Hebrew texts include primarily parabiblical and pseudoepigraphical compositions, often named "Apocryphon," "Testament," "Pseudo-," or "Visions." They reflect the interest in biblical themes characteristic of Second Temple period Judaism, and exhibited in many of the Qumran compositions.

This volume presents a critical text edition of the Hebrew manuscripts (4Q521-8, 4Q576-9) from Cave 4 at Qumran originally allotted to Père Jean Starcky, mainly comprising parabiblical and pseudepigraphic compositions reflecting the interest in biblical themes and liturgy characteristic of the Second Temple period. Professor Puech's edition of the Aramaic texts from this allotment will also appear in Discoveries in the Judaean Desert (Volume XXXI).
