Luc Besson's film about the dangers of obsession and rivalry. A lifelong rivalry between two deep sea divers (who dive without aqualungs) culminates in a series of free-diving competitions. Jacques Mayol (Jean-Marc Barr) can reach unprecedented depths without breathing apparatus, while Enzo (Jean Reno) is driven to dive by obsession. Rosanna Arquette falls for Jacques when she sees him diving in Peru, where she is working. But she is unable to get in contact with him and when he returns to Italy she hatches a plot to get work to transfer her there so that she can be close to him.

Luc Besson directs this biopic about Burmese pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi, played in the film by Michelle Yeoh. Suu Kyi spent almost 15 years under house arrest for leading a non-violent uprising against Burma's long-standing military dictatorship. With the unwavering support of her husband, Oxford academic Michael Aris (David Thewlis), Suu Kyi sacrifices the peace and security of family life in England to lead the struggle to bring democracy to her native country, and put an end to the violence, corruption and human rights abuses that have come to characterise Burmese politics.

Pierce Brosnan makes his 007 debut, replacing Timothy Dalton as Britain's most celebrated secret agent. Without warning she is transferred to a secret training centre where the mysterious Bob (Tchéky Karyo) transforms her into a ruthless government assassin. Directed by Luc Besson, the film was remade in America as 'The Assassin' in 1993.
