In Computed Tomography: Algorithms, Insight, and Just Enough
Theory, readers will learn about the fundamental computational
methods used for image reconstruction in computed tomography (CT).
Unique in its emphasis on the interplay of modeling, computing, and
algorithm development, the book presents underlying mathematical
models for motivating and deriving the basic principles of CT
reconstruction methods, along with insight into their advantages,
limitations, and computational aspects. Computed Tomography:
Algorithms, Insight, and Just Enough Theory: Develops the
mathematical and computational aspects of three main classes of
reconstruction methods. Emphasizes the link between CT and
numerical methods, which is rarely found in current literature.
Describes the effects of incomplete data using both microlocal
analysis and the singular value decomposition (SVD). Contains
computer exercises using MATLAB that allow readers to experiment
with the algorithms and make the book suitable for teaching and
self-study. This book is aimed at students, researchers, and
practitioners. As a textbook, it is appropriate for the following
courses: Advanced Numerical Analysis, Special Topics on Numerical
Analysis, Topics on Data Science, Topics on Numerical Optimization,
and Topics on Approximation Theory.
This book proceedings collects a number of papers presented at the
International Conference on Sensing and Imaging, which was held at
Guangxi University of Science and Technology from October 15-18,
2018. Sensing and imaging is an interdisciplinary field covering a
variety of sciences and techniques such as optics, electricity,
magnetism, heat, sound, and computing technologies. The field has
diverse applications of interest such as image processing
techniques. The results in the book bridge the gap between theory
and applications, translating techniques into better products. The
text will appeal to students, professionals and researchers alike.

This volume consists of a collection of papers that brings together
fundamental research in Radon transforms, integral geometry, and
tomography. It grew out of the Special Session at a Sectional
Meeting of the American Mathematical Society in 2004. The book
contains very recent work of some of the top researchers in the
field. The articles in the book deal with the determination of
properties of functions on a manifold by integral theoretic
methods, or by determining the geometric structure of subsets of a
manifold by analytic methods. Of particular concern are ways of
reconstructing an unknown function from some of its
projections.Radon transforms were developed at the beginning of the
twentieth century by researchers who were motivated by problems in
differential geometry, mathematical physics, and partial
differential equations. Later, medical applications of these
transforms produced breakthroughs in imaging technology that
resulted in the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for the
development of computerized tomography. Today the subject boasts
substantial cross-disciplinary interactions, both in pure and
applied mathematics as well as medicine, engineering, biology,
physics, geosciences, and industrial testing. Therefore, this
volume should be of interest to a wide spectrum of researchers both
in mathematics and in other fields.
