Prince was a spiritual and musical enigma who sought to transcend
race and gender through his words, music, and fashion. Raised as a
Seventh-Day Adventist and later going door-to-door as a Jehovah's
Witness, he expressed his faith overtly and allegorically,
erotically and poetically. Theology and Prince is an edited
collection on theology and the life, music, and films of Prince
Rogers Nelson. Written for academics yet accessible for the
layperson, this book explores Prince's ideas of the afterlife; race
and social justice activism; eroticism; veganism; spiritual alter
egos (with a deep dive into the dark character of "Spooky
Electric"); a queer listening of the Purple Rain album; the
theology of the Graffiti Bridge film (featuring interviews with
co-star Ingrid Chavez and other collaborators), and a story from
Texas of a Christian worship service designed around Prince's music
in the wake of his passing. Those interested in theology and
popular culture; scholars of social justice, racial identity,
LGBTQ+ studies, and gender studies; as well as Prince "fams" will
find new ways of viewing Prince's old and new works.
'A brilliant account of how models are so often abused and of how
they should be used' John Kay How do mathematical models shape our
world - and how can we harness their power for good? Models are at
the centre of everything we do. Whether we use them or are simply
affected by them, they act as metaphors that help us better
understand the increasingly complex problems facing us in the
modern world. Without models, we couldn't begin to tackle three of
the major challenges facing modern society: regulation of the
economy, climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet in recent
years, the validity of the models we use has been hotly debated and
there has been renewed awareness of the disastrous consequences
when the makers and interpreters of models get things wrong.
Drawing on contemporary examples from finance, climate and health
policy, Erica Thompson explores what models are, why we need them,
how they work and what happens when they go wrong. This is not a
book that argues we should do away with models, but rather, that we
need to properly understand how they are constructed - and how some
of the assumptions that underlie the models we use can have
significant unintended consequences. Unexpectedly humorous,
thought-provoking and passionate, this is essential reading for
everyone.

action, in spite of paying the ultimate price in the conflict
between traditional ethics and innocence, demonstrates the
selflessness, kind-heartedness and exceptional love of children in

Philosophy - Miscellaneous, grade: none, Northcentral University,
course: Bullying in the workplace, language: English, abstract:
ABSTACT: Workplace bullying has been studied extensively in the
United States, Austria, Germany, Scandinavia, and the United
Kingdom. Previous studies of bullying have focused on types of
bullying (Einarsen, Hoel, Zapf, & Cooper, 2003; Keashly, 1998;
Pearson, Andersson, & Wegner, 2001), frequency of bullying
(Zapf, Einarsen, Hoel, & Vartia, 2003), the organizational and
social factors that permit or encourage bullying (Andersson &
Pearson, 1999; Fox & Stallworth, 2004; Vartia, 1996; Zapf,
1999), bullying's adverse effects on the victims (Zapf, Knorz,
& Kulla, 1996), ways to counter bullying (Richards & Daley,
2003), and the attributes of bullies and their victims (Zapf).
However, a review of the literature did not uncover studies
focusing on the attributes of workplace bullies in particular. The
proposed study will help fill this gap in the literature by
constructing a psychological profile of workplace bullies. This
profile will help organizations recognize bullies, mitigate their
effects, and prevent bullying.
